. . . could you tell me your source for Mary Greene being George Carr's wife

I received a printout of genealogy information from David W Carr in Oct 1994.
His notes said that George and wife Mary are buried at Elm Row Cemetery,
Laurens, NY. I don't have a record of his sources. Dave can be reached at
dbcarr(a)wpe.com.

BTW, I have the following notes on Isaac:
David W Carr Notes
Isaac bur. Elm Row Cem, Laurens, NY. Isaac Carr (#298) in company with
Benjamin Brightman (# ) made an exploratory visit to Otsego County, New
York before 1790. The exact date is not recorded. They walked from
Providence, RI to Laurens, NY via Cherry Valley. It is said that Isaac stuck
his walking staff in to the earth, to mark the location of the piece of real
estate he wanted to claim for himself. When he returned to the Laurens area
with his family a few years later, he was surprised to see that the staff had
started sprouting leaves (for it was willow). That staff grew into a tree
and became a local landmark. The property Isaac chose was where Poole Brook
Road & Strong Cutoff intersect. That is adjacent to the property owned by
Richard Smith, owner of Smith Hall.

Searching for an Isaac Carr who was in Jamestown, RI in the late 1700's. Any
help appreciated.
Thanks

postings in RI board on AOL.]

Hi Pat,
[Edited] Thanks for your response. Actually, the thing that is driving me
crazy is the name of the mother of Benjamin Brightman who married Bridget
Carr. Benjamin names his father as William of Portsmouth, RI. But try as I
may I cannot find anything that fits. The only Wm of the right age was b.
1749, but the only wife I can find is Elizabeth Lawton and they had two
children. Benjamin also names bros Isaac and George, but I can't find them
anywhere for births, parents, etc.
I tie in through the Brightman line from Freetown, Fall River and Portsmouth.
Then are Turners, Manchesters, Reads, a bunch more. Got any ideas?
Trish

[Edited] I think it was entirely possible that Benjamin and Isaac Carr walked
to NY from Providence. It probably was an account published in a local NY
paper. The paper also mentioned the weight of the packs they carried and
that an old friend was so surprised to see them. Your story is interesting.
Do you think it true?
