I would like to (a) thank you for your sacrifices and (b) welcome you home
again - especially those Vietnam Vets who never did receive a fair shake from
most people in this country.
This thanks goes even to our Civil War, Spanish American War and most
importantly, our Revolutionary War vets. Without any of them, we wouldn't be
here doing our genealogy, grousing about not being able to get onto the
internet, etc.
Last year, as my husband, daughter, grand-daughter and a friend, were driving
home via 101 Highway in California from my father-in-law's house in northern
CA, there stood a man on an overpass - he stood ram-rod straight, at
attention, holding the American flag on a staff, in a pouring rain. He never
waivered. I have not forgotten him, I don't think I ever shall. I remember
thinking, that is what this holiday is all about. Even though we took a
different route home this year from northern CA, I still saw him in my mind.
And it was raining again.
So, the next time you are at a cemetary looking for your ancestors, stop and
say thank you to those thousands of "unknown-to-me" soldiers who made your
search possible.
WELCOME HOME and THANK YOU!
