I think the current nobel line is Kerr by marriage the original daughtered
out. However the Caleb Carr line of NJ maintained they descended from a
younger Kerr son .Also Walter Ker of Monmouth NJ was supposed to be a noble
ker. He was one of the coveneters and was deported less one ear rather than
being put to the sword like the more common ones.

A post script to my earlier response to Jeff Carr,
I see that I typed R1a twice when I meant I1a. Also, Jeff mentions that
his line is supposed to descend from Carre' of France. Some authorities
give the Carre' or le Carre' surname as the origins of the Kerrs of
Scotland, who came to England and Scotland with William the Conquerer in
the retinue of the de Bruys [ the Bruce] family. We do not know the DNA
makeup of the noble Kerrs of Scotland since no one with such a pedigree
has stepped forward and joined the Carr DNA project. However, as this
family is believed to have been of Norse ancestry, Jeff's DNA is of a type
one would expect for that family, so he, or one of the other four I1a
haplotypes in the Carr DNA project, or someone on this list yet to do
their DNA, may descend from the same paternal line as the Kerrs of
Scotland.
I mention this because I have been asked what the DNA of the Kerrs of
Scotland would be like. Of course, we do not know what it would be, even
the current holders of their titles inherited through the daughters of the
last male Kerr Patriarchs, so even if we had their DNA it would not be for
the noble Kerr line. The early Kerrs were quite prolific however, so
surely there are some male descendants of their line alive today.
