Subject: Sunshine, maybe!
It's just possible that a teeny tiny little beam of sunlight is showing through my
brick wall...cross fingers for me!!!
I just found a Revolutionary Land Warrant issued to JAMES KARR who received a land grant
of 200 acres "in consideration of his services in the War as a soldier in (on?)
Virginia Continental Line", dated 24 June 1783. My ggg grandfather, Henry Karr, left
VA for KY circa 1799-1800(was in the 1800 census in Madison Co. KY), and although I found
sales of land by him, there were never any deeds, or grants, or bills of sale to be found
as to how he came by these properties. Soooo...I thought perhaps a Rev. War Grant might be
an explanation. Couldn't find any parents for him either, but now I think James is
his father, because I also looked at a 1785 census of VA and there is James, with Henry
living with him!!! After five years of searching, my "gut feeling" is telling
me I finally found something.
Now...how do I go about proving that this grant for 200 acres (which could be assigned to
the son of a soldier who received the grant) is, in fact, how my Henry came by his
properties in KY? How do I find more on the Virginia Continental Line....was it a
battalion, company, unit, or was it a place? Are there documents that tell more personal
info about the soldiers in the Rev. War, as there are for the Civil War and later? Where
do I go to look for them?
I've found several Rev.War Links, but so far I've just gone 'round in circles,
or found re-enactors. Does anyone know a more definitive site I could try?
Sorry to have written a "book" here, but I've got so much to tell and
I'm soooo excited. I know, I may get shot down in a day or two, but for this moment
I'm gonna enjoy!!!
Thanks for any help!
