Longtime Brewster resident; avid reader, traveler; cook
BREWSTER - Gertrude A. (Carr) McIntire, 84, a longtime Cape resident,
died Wednesday in Hyannis following a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Robert L. McIntire.
She was born and educated in Waltham. Following her graduation from St.
Mary's High School, she worked as a dental assistant and later at the Grover
Cronin Department Store in Waltham.
After her marriage in 1942, she and her husband moved to Braintree where
they raised their family. They moved to Brewster in 1979.
Mrs. McIntire was an avid reader and traveler and an accomplished cook.
She spent winters in Englewood, Fla. from 1984 to 1988.
She leaves one son, Robert C. McIntire of Menlo Park, Calif.; two
daughters, Marilyn M. Myers of Milton and Ellen M. Young of Weymouth; a
sister, Grace Matthews of Lake Worth, Fla.; and four grandchildren;
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Myers in Milton and from 2 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Mrs.
McIntire's home in Brewster. A graveside service is at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the
Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
