Obituary: FAY C. ASHMORE, 76, of 1 Fox Run, co-owner and broker of Spectrum
Real Estate Co.,
Portsmouth, died Saturday at home. She was the wife of the late Clement R.
Ashmore.
Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Chester A. and Lusanna
(Allen) Carr.
Mrs. Ashmore was a realtor for the Portsmouth Real Estate Co. in Portsmouth
from 1971 to 1984. She then
established the Spectrum Real Estate Co. with her partner, Mae Pelto.
She was a member of Newport County Realtors and the R.I.
Association of Realtors. She served on various committees, including the
legislative committee. She was a
former member of the Portsmouth Business Association, a member of the
Daughters of the American
Revolution, and a past commander of the Women's Auxiliary of the American
Legion. Mrs. Ashmore was a
longtime board member of the Society for the Preservation of the Johnny
Cake of R.I. For years she was a
manager and part owner of the Old Grist Mill Restaurant in Seekonk.
Mrs. Ashmore leaves four nieces, Jacquelyn V. Marchant of Shrewsbury,
Mass., Fay A. Sisson of
Portsmouth, Muriel V. Roberts of Fall Church, Va., and Melissa C. Baasch of
Portsmouth; five nephews,
Peter A. VonVillas of Portsmouth, Michael C. VonVillas of Tiverton, Gregory
A. VonVillas of Highland,
Texas, Christopher J. Carr of Newport, Christopher Bise in Pa., and many
grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was a sister of the late Timmie C. VonVillas, Muriel C. Orr, and John
T. Carr.
The Eucharist and Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in
St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324
East Main Rd., Portsmouth.
Burial will be private, in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
