Well, isn't that a fine kettle of fish?! I checked my two road atlases
and both list it as Pleasant Mount. There are many Mount Pleasants in the
state, but not in Wayne Co. Yet both Edson Carr and Arthur Carr refer to it
as Mt Pleasant in Wayne Co, PA. It's even in the index of Arthur's book. I
looked through the census reels at this line, but it was almost ten years ago
and I can't remember anymore what it said. I could have easily figured it was
a census enumerator error.
I went on a genealogy trip to Lewis County in upstate New York about ten
years ago. They had a Glendale Cemetery in a town once called Glendale. In
about 1870, the town name had to be changed because the post office had
determined that there were too many Glendales in New York State. I wonder if
that might have happened in Pennsylvania in this case?
There is a Mt Pleasant, PA (Westmoreland Co) [SE of Pittsburgh], Mt
Pleasant, PA (Berks Co) [W of Reading], and Mt Pleasant, PA (Adams Co) [SW of
York]. If the Post Office was trying to resolve something, they didn't.
Anyway, I'll make note of all this and see if I can dig something up on
the subject. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
