If anyone knows (or knows of) Gertrude and her family, please contact me. I
don't show her in my CARR files. But their location implies I should.

Gertrude Carr
Gertrude Carr, 83, of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Heartland
Regional Medical Center in Marion.
She had, for the last two years, been a resident of Parkway Manor in Marion,
though she had been a lifelong resident of Harrisburg.
She was born in Harrisburg Oct. 7, 1919, to Grover and Mina Mae Stricklin
Fulkerson. She married George Carr on March 1, 1947 in Harrisburg and he
died in Harrisburg on June 21, 1991.
Survivors include one brother, Woodrow Fulkerson of Spearman, Texas, and
three sisters, Nell Merrow of Marion, Mrs. David (Betty) Brown of Vandalia
and Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Boyd of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Charles
Fulkerson, Denzil Fulkerson, Ralph Fulkerson, Grover Dale Fulkerson, Willard
Fulkerson and Roy Harold Fulkerson; and sister, Berniece Norris.
Gertrude formerly was employed by the Southeastern Illinois Electric
Cooperative in Eldorado. In 1960 she achieved a life-long dream when she
graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a teaching
degree. She then went to work for the Harrisburg school system and retired
as a social studies teacher at Malan Junior High School where her husband
was also a teacher.
Gertrude was a member of several organizations including the Harrisburg
First Baptist Church, Friends of Harrisburg Library and the SIU Alumni
Association. She was particularly proud of her service as a school teacher
and later in her life, she could not go out in public without being
recognized by many of her former pupils.
Visitation for Gertie will be at Reed Funeral Chapel 5 to 8 p.m. Friday,
Aug. 29, 2003. There will be a brief committal service 10 a.m. Saturday,
Aug. 30, 2003, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Those who would like to be present
for this should gather at the cemetery at the appointed time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Harrisburg
Public Library, where Gertrude had been a major benefactor during the recent
renovation of that facility.
Condolences may be sent to family members through the obituary page of
www.reedfuneralchapel.com.
