Gen. Martin fought in the Battle of Kings Mt and was a
leading spirit in the treaty of Hopewell in 1785. In 1839 Nancy
martin acknowledged a Power of Atty. to John F. Martin as guardian of
her children to act in their behalf in the settlement of the estate of
their grandmother, Susannah Martin, late of Henry Co, VA.

Hezekiah
Davis. They lived on 250 A of land near her father until after his
death. In a 1837 Maury Co, YN Chancery Court suit Thomas N. Barham
quoted someone......."said Hezekiah davis owned no property but a rifle
gun......Davis and his wife had gone and left their property........Mrs
Davis went to Missouri." Mary Davis sued by her next friend Wm. Carr
stating that "she needed support for herself and her children: Wm. D.
Davis and Alexander Hamilton Davis." A 1833 trust deed was enteed into
the case for the 250 A on which they lived. Also stated "Hezekiah davis
removed to Missouri........the following May, mary went after him and
the defendant hired a man to go with her.......said mary's father used
every argument against her going........Hezekiah Davis having a long
time been adicted to intemperance now lives in Missouri.........the
defendant Joseph Winston said he was related to Hezekiah Davis."

4 - Charles Car ====== b: 1798/99 d: 1842 in Miss.
md: 4 May 1840 Marshall Co, TN Cecely Barham. She md: (2) 29
Aug 1843 marshall Co, TN.....Joshua Huggins. It was established
that Charles Carr was rather slow in his thinking. In a 1840 court
case to determine if he and his brother David and sister Susannah were
competent to manage their own affairs, it was determined that they wee
comptent. It was also established that he and his brother David were
waggoners, as had been their father. William Aldridge in a deposition
stated that he considred them capable of conducting their own business.
He delt a great deal with Charles and David and found them capable of
being waggoners. He kept a ferry on Duck River where they crossed a
great many times and they bought feed from him for their horses and
always settled their debts. Charles moved to Miss. in the winter of
1841 or summer of 1842. He sold his land and slaves before he left.
His sons, Charles Thomas Carr and David Newton Carr, later sued to
recover the land and slaves stating that he was not competent and had
been cheated.
6 - Matilda Carr ====== b: 1800/10 d: 1838/40 md:
Benjamin M. Jones. In 1847 Court action: Benj. M. Jones of
Tishaningo Co, Miss. was appointed guardian of Sarah T. Jones, America
Paralee Jones, John F. Jones and Thomas Jasper Jones in 1840 in Miss.
Because as the father of minor children he was the natural guardian of
them, all under 14 years old. In 1827 he had been in the cotton gin
with Alexander Martin in Maury Co.

Son of Brig Gen Joseph Martin & 2nd Wife Susanah Graves.
They moved to
Missouri before her father died. In his will he specified that she was
to receive an additional child's part in negroes which were entrusted to
Bruce M. Hammonds of MO. or his heirs, for the benefit of "my
daughter Elizabeth Martin, living in MO. and being reduced to poverty
by the misfortunes of her husband Alexander martin. 4 Mar 1839 the
Marshall Co Court stated that John F. Carr's estate was $11,293.89 and
she was to get a seperate child's part. They set apart for her a negro
girl Syntha and a negro girl Vinder and 1/10 of the remainder of the
estate.
8- David Carr ====== b: 1808/15 d: 1842 MS He was deaf
and dumb and because he could not comminicate his abliity to manage his
affairs was questioned as stated. It was stated by Pervines fox that
"David managed his property very well and was an astute trader of horses
and difficult to beat in a trade." Elisha Hurt said, "David learned to
read some and could recognize his name when written. After his
father's death he gave Thomas N. Barham Power of Atty to manage his
property and moved to MS with his family in 1841. He lived in their
home until his death.
His estate was under probate in 1844 by William Hughes
9 - Susannah Carr ====== b: 1810/15 d: 1842 MS
Susannah was born with deformities of her feet and one hand. She had
difficulty walking and consequently rarely left home. She was said to
be shy and said nothing around strangers but carried on a normal
conversation with people she knew. After her parents died she executed
Power of Atty to Thomas N. Barham to manage her estate. She moved to
Miss. with his family in 1841 and lived in their house until her death.
10 - Sarah Carr ===== b: 5 Mar 1810 NC d: 17 Feb 1889 Oak
Ridge, LA md: 5 Mar 1834 Maury Co, TN Thomas Nathaniel
Barham d: Dec 1855. In a court suit it was stated "Thomas N.
Barham left here sometime about Oct/Nov 1839 with a drove of hogs.
He did not return at the usual time for drovers and the people began to
suspect his colvency. He was sold out by the sheriff in May 1840. He
did not return to this county until Nov/Dec 1840. He was in Noxubee
Co, MS in Mar 1841 and was in Caddo Parish, LA in 1846.
