You mention that your Carr's wife was possibly named Harriet - please have a look at
the following information - you can e-mail me privately at djnicol(a)attglobal.net - I have
lots of information on Harriet Carr but nothing on her husband except that his name was
Carr and his first name may have been James.
My great great grandmother was married to one James (?) Carr born in the US - probably in
the area of New York - I am not sure which war he served in but with the following dates
you may be able to assist me in finding out more about my great great grandfather. I do
understand that the information on him is sketchy at best but hope you might be able to
make some connection.
My g.g. grandmother was Harriet Charlotte Rose - born circa Nov.30.1804 either in
Manchester, Bennington - on the border between New York and Connecticut (which later
became the State of Vermont) or possibly German Flats Twp. Herkimer Co., New York. They
had 2 daughters - both born in the US - Rachel Ann Carr b: abt. 1825 (my great
grandmother) and Eliza Carr. My gggrandmother was also listed as Margaret, she served an
instructress to families of the staff of the Duke of Richmond, who had come with his
regiment after Waterloo to build the Rideau Canal. Harriet was widowed sometime prior to
1836 - she subsequently moved to Canada and married Hugh Ross in Glengarry, Ontario. She
and Hugh had 5 children born between 1838 and 1849. Rachel subsequently married my gg
grandfather, Christmas Rivett and Eliza married Daniel Eastman
I understand that the foregoing information is more about my gg grandmother than about my
gg grandfather but as I seem to have exhausted all other avenues of finding out something
about him I decided to send you the info and see if you can assist.
Thanks for your patience in reading through this material - any suggestions will be most
welcome.
