Passed away on April 15 2008 after a long struggle with Parkinson's.
Phyllis lived in Fairfax district of LA most of her life, graduating from Fairfax High
1935 and UCLA and USC in social work. she was an avid tennis player for many years at
Poinsettia park where she met her husband William Carr and played tennis until she was in
her 70's. She worked for children's bureau and Traveler's Aid as a social
worker, worked at Fairfax High School financial office and was active in all her
children's schools including Carthay Circle and Fairfax High PTA. She was also an avid
mahjong player with a long standing group of friends. She loved the Farmer's Market
for more than 50 years and was a fixture there until this year.
Born in Baltimore, MD. in 1918 to Eugene Bloomberg and Hortense Blumenthal. She was
married to William Gardner Carr who passed away in 1983. Survived by children James Carr
(wife Madonna Diveley Carr) of Costa Mesa and Marian Carr of LA.
She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers please support the cure for
Parkinson's.
