Sister Charles Joseph Carr, SSJ, teacher's aide
Sister Charles Joseph Carr, SSJ (Mary E. Carr), 94, a beloved member
of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in her 76th year of
profession, died March 29, 2008 at Sunny View Nursing Home, Warwick.
Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of Charles H. and Florence R.
(Giles) Carr. Sister Carr entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Springfield from Sacred Heart Parish, Pawtucket. She graduated from
Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket and earned a B.A. degree from the
College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, Mass.
Sister taught in the Diocese of Providence in St. Joseph School,
Newport, for 28 years and in St. Francis of Assisi School, Warwick,
for 31 years. Since 1994 she had served at St. Francis School as a
teacher's aide.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, Sister is survived by
several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was
the sister of the late Florence Nixon, Helen Jellis, Barbara Moulton,
Charles Carr and Rev. Fr. Edward J. Carr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated April 2 at 10 a.m.
in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call April 1 from 4-8 p.m.
at the church. A wake will take place at Mont Marie, Holyoke, Mass.
April 2 from 2-4:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 3 p.m. The Liturgy
of Christian Burial will be held in the Mont Marie Chapel on
Wednesday at 5 p.m. Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery, Holyoke.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont
Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040-2739. Arrangements
