A branch of my family was diagnosed with Splenetic Anemia back in the 1930's. I am not
sure exactly which variation of the disease my relo's have but if you have links to
the Higgins or Carr name in Ireland and/or Scotland and it is in your family tree then we
may be related.
Within my family, I have traced the disease back to an Irish family, living in Scotland
from about 1835.
l know that Henry Higgins (b.1836 Glasgow, Scotland) and his sister Mary Higgins,[later
Mary Hazel] (b.1841 Barony, Glasgow) both had the disease as their descendants in
Australia have been diagnosed.
Their parents were Andrew Higgins (b c1801 Ireland, d.1882 Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland)
and Susannah Carr (b c1808 Ireland, d.1843 Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland). Other siblings
include William b.1834 in Ireland and John b c1832 also in Ireland.
There was also a half brother Andrew HIggins (b1845 Ayrshire, d1858 Ayrshire).
I am unsure whether the disease was passed down through the Carr family or the Higgins
family prior to this time.
Please contact me if you think there is a link.
