Many Scottish families emigrated to Ireland to settle King James' Plantation and later
generations emigrated elsewhere. Just because people emigrated from Ireland does not mean
their ancestors were all born there. In fact, Irish often went to England to emigrate to
the US and vice versa. It is a fallacy to believe that folks emigrated to America from
the nearest port. There were many factors involved and it is not at all surprising to
find folks embarking for distant lands from a port far from their home.
