Elwood L. Carr
ONTARIO-Graveside services for Elwood L. Carr, 72, of Ontario, who died Sunday, June 8,
1986, in a Nyssa hospital of natural causes, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in
Evergreen cemetery, Ontario, with Rev. Bob Carpenter of the North Nampa Church of the
Nazarene, officiating, under direction of Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel, Ontario.
He was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Newkirk, Okla., son of Birdie and Bertie McMinn Carr. He was
raised in the Ontario and Fruitland areas. He married Alida DeBoer in Payette, July 12,
1941. He worked as a painter in the Ontario area for over 35 years, working with Pete
Turner and George Engler before contracting on his own. He retired from painting in 1977,
because of ill health. On any Saturday he could be found fishing on Lake Owyhee or the
Brownlee Resevoir.
Survivors include his wife, Alida, Ontario; a son, Duane Carr, Baton Rouge, La.; a
daughter, Christina Jo Adams, Island, Park, Idaho; two brothers, Everett Wilson Carr,
Colorado Springs, Colo. and Ellis Ray Carr, Westminster, Calif.; two sisters, Eva Eloris
Toothaker and Alice Geraldine Kenney both of Ontario; two grandsons, numerous nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna and Mildred Rosemary and a brother,
Elden.
Friends may call tonight at Ontario Lienkaemper Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Oregon State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
in care of the funeral chapel.
