BUILDING NAMED
In 1971, Alan G. Carr drove up a Hingham hill to an abandoned 1919 US naval
commandant's home and said, "This will be the new home of the South Shore
Conservatory," according Lanci Valentine of the conservatory's marketing
department.
In late July, an addition to the conservatory building was named in honor
of Carr. The lifelong Hingham resident and longtime leader of the
conservatory died last year.

More than 250 guests turned out to celebrate the opening of the Alan G.
Carr Building at the South Shore Conservatory in Hingham.

conservatory from a music school into a real center for the performing
arts. The added space, about 11,000 square feet, will allow the
conservatory to offer a variety of new programs, including music therapy
and full-day kindergarten. ....
