RUTH A. BAKER, 71, of Cornell Road, a retired cook and chef, died
Wednesday at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick, RI.
Born in Charlestown, RI, she was a daughter of the late Elwyn and Reva
(Carr) Sherman.
Ms. Baker had been a cook at the University of Rhode Island for 15 years
before retiring in 1996. She had also been a chef at the former Mr. Up's,
in Wakefield.
She leaves a daughter, Barbara Johnson of Charlestown; four sisters,
Gloria Corr of Ormond Beach, Fla., Judith Woodmansee of Wakefield, Reva
Woodmansee of Warne, N.C., and Evelyn Monk of Charlestown; a brother,
Elwyn Sherman of Litchfield, Maine; and five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Joyce and Walter
Baker, and sister of the late Howard Sherman.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Avery-Storti
Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be private.
