Betsi,
Thanx for your reply. I am interested in William Carr because of the will that was posted
on this forum with had two names of interest to me.
First, I find the phrase, "I Give to my Granddaughter Francis Farmer one negro Girl
Eliza". I do have any proof for this but I believe this might be my 3rd grand
grandmother, Frances "Fanny" Farmer. I have the name Frances as the wife of
Samuel B. Farmer in the1850 in St. Charles Co., Mo. I do not have any documentation on her
parents. As far as my Frances being the Francis Farmer in this will I can only go by the
fact that this will was proved in 1836 and the 1840 census of St. Charles co. of S. B.
Farmer has listed one female slave 10 - 25 yrs old. Samuel and Frances Farmer moved from
Franklin Co. Va. along with Samuel's dad Matthew, out to St. Charles Co. Mo. in 1834.
There for I assumed that the slave girl in the will is the same one as in the 1840 census.
This is my only documentation I have to tie my Frances to the Francis Farmer in the will
of William Carr.
But, there is one more name in the will of interest to me as it relates to my Frances. And
that is the name of "Jordan Lipscomb Guardian of Adeline Paul & Patience
Carr".
I do not know who Jordan was nor do I know who Adeline Paul & Patience Carr were but
postings found on WorldConnect give the name of Thomas B. Carr and the father of my
Frances and her mother as either Frances or her sister Nancy Ragland. I think maybe Thomas
married a very young Frances Ragland in about 1805 or so and she must have died in
childbirth or something. Then he must have married the sister of Frances Ragland who would
have been named Nancy. She has 4 kids (including my Frances Farmer) and dies also, maybe
in childbirth. I year or two latter Thomas B. Carr married Nancy Abbott and had about 4
kids and they are listed as the main recipients of the will. Thomas B. Carr is dead by the
time of the writing of this will as the will declares. He died in about 1828 from some of
the WorldConnect postings I have seen. Now that I have said all of that I want to say that
the father of Frances and Nancy Ragland was a certain Thomas "Lipscomb" Ragland
according to postings on !
WorldConnect. It looks like the Lipscomb family at some point were friends with the Carr
family.
That is about all I have to connect my Frances Farmer with the William Carr in this will.
My immediate goal is to identify all of my immigrant forefathers and the dates in which
they emigrated to America. You state that the name of the father of William Carr was
Thomas Carr. How did you get that info and what was his name of William's mother?
Also you said that William moved to Halifax Co. Va. along with his in-laws. Do you have
their names and the name of William's wife?
Thanx,
Jim Farmer,
Florissant, Mo.
