My mother's family, starting out in Bedford County, VA with Alexander & Sarah
Keenum in the 1700's, have a very similar migration pattern. Their grandson Richard
Keenum moved to Ross County, Ohio around 1850. He was joined by the families of several
grown and married daughters (Cox and Lucas are other family names).
Richard's son James Middleton Keenum (b. 1832, Bedford Co, VA), married a gal from
Hardy VA (now WV), Joan (or Joanne) Elizabeth Neff. Their youngest son, Charles W.
Keenum, born in Ross County, OH in 1860, is my great grandfather. The 1870 census found
the family living in Lafayette Twp., Illinois.
They moved around a lot, living in various parts of Texas and New Mexico long enough to
get a land grant, build a school, and then move on.
I was having trouble tracking down any records on my great grandmother Olive Keenum. Just
yesterday, I found a newspaper legal notice that named Charles W. Keenum and Olive Carr,
"formerly Olive Keenum". I don't know whether or not Carr is her maiden
name, but in doing some searching on it, I came across a Carr family tree that shows a
"Frances Olive Carr" born in 1858 as the daughter of William A. Carr and Sarah
Boone.
That caught my eye because my grandfather, the son of Charles W. and Olive Keenum, is
named Charles Boone Keenum. I tried to email the owner of the tree, Larry Carr, but the
email was returned.
I have one picture of Olive, taken in Colorado in the 1890s. My grandfather was born in
Colorado.
So, does anyone have any more information on Olive? My mother remembers meeting her once
some time in the late 1920s.
