It appears that we are working on the same families. I too have been researching the
Joseph Carr, Sr./Jr. families that moved from PA to IA, and ultimately to KS for a couple
of years.
I've got quite a lot of information on the Joseph Jr. and family. I have birth/death/
information for the parents (Joseph CARR and Margaret McQUISTON) and 8 of the 9 children.
One of the children (Alfred A. or Alfred O.) continues to elude me. The particular branch
that my wife descends from is Joseph Craig CARR, so I have fairly complete records of his
family and descendants. For the other 7 (sans Alfred), I have identified spouses,
birth/death dates, and most of their children. Depending on which branch you are
interested in, I probably have some information to share.
I haven't done as well with Joseph CARR Sr. and his wife Elizabeth. I loose track of
them after the 1860 census in Jackson County, IA. I've tried to contact the county
there to see if there are estate records, but to no avail. I suspect Elizabeth is a second
wife, else she was only 12 when Joseph Jr. was born! I have no clues as to Joseph
Sr.'s parents.
Unfortunately, I've never been able to find Joseph Sr. in the 1850 census. The 1840
census shows Joseph Sr.'s wife as 40-50, which is not much help. Could be 40
(Elizabeth) or 50 (another spouse). The two Joseph's are neighbors in that census, not
too far from "Abaneazor" Carr! Joseph Sr. has a large family still (wife, 4
sons, 3 daughters). If I could this family in 1850 it'd help a lot.
Anyway, I'd love to correspond with you about these families, and would appreciate
getting any information or ideas you have. I've kind of dead-ended at this point. As I
indicated, I'd be pleased to share what I have if we could figure out a safe way to
exchange e-mail addresses.
