Bobby GilmerMoss' book "The Patriots at Kings Mountain" gives the
following information on a NC William Carr:
CARR, William, Sgt.
William Carr enlisted during 1775 under Capt. Barr and Col. Polk in
Mecklenburg County, NC. He also served under Capt. Barr and Col.
Alexander during 1775 and went against the Indians. During March 1779
he enlisted under Col. Shelby. In 1780 he was a sergeant under Capt.
John Pemberton and Col. Shelby and he was in the battle at King's
Mountain. During the summer or early fall of 1781 he was under Capt.
Wallace and Col. Shelby and marched to Marion's camp in SC. Carr was
allowed a pension on his application executed 21 August 1832 while
residing in Sullivan Co. TN and aged 77 years. FPA S1896.
My James Carr was in Sullivan Co. TN from 1784-1799, but I've never been
able to find a connection between James and William.
There was also a Patrick Carr with land grants in Sullivan Co. in this
time period:
Carr, Patrick, Sullivan Co., 1792, 200 acres, North Carolina District,
book 15, page 108, Grant #565.
Carr, Patrick, Sullivan Co., 1794, 144 acres, North Carolina District,
book 15, page 140, Grant #623.
