Hi Bridgett, I got the following from Roger Carr. Sounds as though he's researched
it thoroughly. What do you think ?
Nancy, you may find most information on the Boggs/Carr line from Braxton County in
"DON NORMAN'S FILE" which you can access through Hackers Valley, Rootsweb
(Braxton, Barbour Couty). This was done some time ago and updated recently.
Don went with the usual and has Isaac as being James Peyton Carr's father. We live in
the area where access to the court records was possible. We list a John Carr as being
James Peyon's father. County court and census records will support this. I do believe
that an Isaac is in the line, maybe John's father or grandfather. John was one of the
first settlers into the area of Greenbrier County that became Monroe County. John had a
land grant from the mid 1780's and married in Greenbrier to an Elizabeth Lemons, this
I found in a report of marriages turned in by ministers, "EARLY MARRIAGES OF
GREENBRIER COUNTY". This book has either walked out of the state archives or been
misplaced.
The source of Isaac Carr was from the wife of a grandson of James Peyton Carr given to
Morten for the Morten's History of Braxton County. In Sutton's History of Braxton
County the same story appears, but his name is James P. Carr. Again, same story. I believe
the story is incorrect. It took some studying of the original text to determine the
source. Another possibly error was that Isaac was born near London, came here while young.
The Greenbrier/Monroe County area was settled by settlers from the Valley Of Virginia that
grew tried of the English land barons who would not honor their land titles after the
Indian threat was removed. About all of my fathers family fit this category.
As to Jeff Carr's side, you won't tie in with them through the Carr line. His
family settled with the Germans in South Branch Valley. The spelling of the name was
different before that.
I tried to e-mail you on Tuesday but was unsure if and what you may have received.
If I may be of help please e-mail me.
