William H. Carr b1788 d1854 m1Martha Rice m2 Hannah Harper. Martha met him on the road
home from War 1812 & told him of death of child. His pension file Wc-30163 includes
this information. His bounty land records show his property as does the 1850 discription
of Jackson County districts. The estate settlement names the children except for daugher
Mary Mansell who he may have settled with when she married. Here is what Edna Bond Ripley
(desc from David & Mary Carr Mansell) wrote me in the 1980's.
"Because of the war, Wm got several land grants & had a pension which included 2
bounty land grants. After his death (11/4/1854), widow Hannah Harper Carr, the second
wife, was granted a bounty land grant of 80 acres, which she promptly sold. Wn left a life
interest in a tract of 50 acres which had been a grant, & on which the homesetead was
located, believed to be near Bloominton Springs. Hannah rec'd a widow's pension of
$8.00 a month. She was going blind & moved in with her bro-in-law, W. R. Dyer, husband
of her only sister. When the sister died, she continued to live there. (W.R. Dyer had a
son, logan Dyer who can be found in old records.) Hannah sold her claim to the Carr
homestead to Joseph Allison. Deed dated 4/12/1858 & recorded in Bk B p 454. However,
the deed did not give Allison a title to the place, because Wm's will gave her only a
life estate, with his children to have the property after Hannah's death. After she
gave the deed to Joseph Stewart Allison, Wm's so!
n, Albert Fielding Carr deeded his undivided interest in 50 acres; also a deed from
Elizabeth Carr Alcorn (dau), was turned over to Allison. This left only the share of
Arrena Carr Mansell (dec'd dau), and it was signed over to Allison by the guardian of
her minor children. So, Joseph (Stewart) Allison had the property."
Allison had adjoining property. Wm sold everything in his lifetime but the homeplace
before he died. Slaves were sold after Wm's death on a 12 month credit.
His chrn were: Mary m David Mansell, Arrena K md. Wm Mansell, Wm Harrison m Lucretia
Conway, Sallie/Sarah m Joseph Stephens, Daniel W. m Elizabeth Harper, John R. m Mahala
Dyer, Albert Fielding m Frances Anna Harper, Elijah J. m Mathussey Dyer, Nancy Ann m
William Wilson Stephens, Martha m Riley Harrison & Elizabeth m John Allcorn/Alcorn.
My best guess is that Wm & Martha Rice were probably both buried in Loveland Cemetery,
in the eastern section of the Cane Creek connection settlement of
Carr/Allison/Ray/Campbell because that is where his oldest daughter, Mary Carr Mansell was
buried not too many years after her father's death. Although some markers are intact
there is no evidence.
