I am looking for information on my g-g-g grandmother Alma J. Carr and her husband John S.
Perkins. They were both born in PA. Alma in 1832 and John on February 13, 1827. And
both died in Allamakee, Iowa. Alma on November 16, 1865 and John on May 25 1858.
Alma's family I am told is believed to be from Pennsylvania as well as Michigan or
Minnestoa. The mystery I am trying to solve is whether or not John and Alma indeed had a
daughter named Helen in 1854. After John passed Alma married a man named Edward H. Smith
(my g-g-g- grandfather) and they had a son Harry Warren Smith. Unfortunately Alma died
during child birth. Helen Perkins remains living with Edward and Harry after Alma's
passing according to census records. And even remains living with Harry (her possible
step brother) and Harry's stepmother after Edwards passing. I can find her in census
records until 1870 (age approx. 17) and then she disappears. The reason this is such a
mystery for my family, even thou!
gh on Alma's obituary is lists that she has two children, is that NO ONE in my family
has ever heard of her. My mother remembers my g-g grandpa Harry (Helen's probable
step brother) and yet she, nor anyone else who knew him ever remember him mentioning her.
So the question is did she pass on early in life so therefore he never spoke of her? (He
would have been 4 in the last census record she was living with him) or did she marry and
move on with her life never to look back? Did she have children? Anyone with any
information regarding any of the people mentioned in this post please feel free to email
me at jenwickert(a)wi.rr.com. Thank you!
