NEW YORK (AP) - Caleb Carr, a military historian and author of the
best-selling historical novel ``The Alienist,'' will write a book on the
history of terrorism.
``The Conquest of Terror'' is scheduled for a December release from Random
House.
In a statement released Thursday, the publisher said Carr's book will examine
``the historical roots of terrorism since ancient times and show why it has
been, though immensely destructive, an ultimately failed tactic.''
Meanwhile, University Press, California next month will publish ``America
Attacked,'' a comprehensive retelling on everything from the background of
the terrorists to the cell phone calls made by hijacked passengers.
A first printing of 100,000 is planned and the publisher reports 25,000
orders as of early Thursday. A ``significant'' part will be donated to
families of firefighters killed.
Earlier this week, two other ``instant'' books were announced.
ReganBooks, an imprint of HarperCollins, hopes to complete ``God Bless
America'' within the next few weeks and have it on sale by year's end. The
book is expected to include essays, poems and stories about America.
Contributors are still being lined up and profits will be donated to charity.
``09/11 8:48 AM'' - a joint project between two online publishers,
BookSurge.com and
Blueear.com - is scheduled to come out Sept. 30, in both
electronic and paper versions.
