Hi Darlene, thanks for all your help. I actually live in Carr's Landing, just a
short distance from where Andrew Carr lived. The history project I am working on is for
the Carr's Landing Community & Rec Association
www.carrslanding.org
I am gradually collecting info on the area but there is little available on Andrew himself
locally and I am on a steep learning curve. Vital Stats show he died 1910 at the age of
64 but his grave marker shows born 14 March 1841. The Census in 1891 gives his age at 40.
Population was so sparse in those days it is unlikely that there were two Andrew Carr at
the time. My next stop is the Vernon Museum which has a complete collection of
historical reports, but even they seem to be short of info on Andrew.
The gravemarker states Veteran of the Civil War and the Census shows he was born in USA of
American born parents.
He is not in Postal records as being a postmaster yet he supposedly met the sternwheelers
on Okanagan Lake and distributed the mail to the few neighbours. I would really like to
know when he arrived from the USA and a little on his history prior to arriving.
As you visit Carr's each year , do you have contacts here who could contribute info to
the history project? Any help would be most welcome to fill in some of the gaps.
Penny
