Peru — Mr. Charles J. Carr, 77, of Route 9, Peru and Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away
Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., on March 15, 1925, the son of Charles J. and Edith
(Gibeau) Carr.
Charles was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He made landings
on the Marshal Islands, Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jimo.
He worked for New York State Electric and Gas retiring in 1987 as a U. C. & M. foremen
after 41 years of service. He is a life member Fourth Marine Division Association, Erie
Chapter 40 of the Marine Corps. League, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2121 of Port Charlotte,
Fla., Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 2606 Punta Gorda, Fla.
In his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing and traveling. He was an avid NASCAR
fan.
Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Peg Hamelin who died in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia (Scrime) Carr of Peru and Punta Gorda, Fla.; seven
daughters and their spouses, Susan and Mike Lawson of Peru, Nancy and Glen Elmore of
Lousia, Va., Janice and Dick Gumtow of San Diego, Calif., Betty and Larry Ebere of Rouses
Point, Judy and Kenny Otis of Cornwall, Pa., Toma and Mickey Mattot of Mooers Forks and
Joni Styles and her companion, Chris Barcomb of Plattsburgh; a stepdaughter, Stephanie and
Jorge Riveros of Longmont, Colo.; a stepson, David Lavigne and his companion, Sara Sharp
of Peru; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Carr of Plattsburgh; fourteen
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held at the convenience of the
family.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
