Thomas Carr, son of major Carr and brother of John Carr, was born in
VA. in 1709. His children were: Thomas b 15 may 1742;
William
b 1745; McCager Carr b 1748; and Gideon Carr b 1752.
Thomas Carr was born in VA., probably in Albermarle Co. He married
Ann Sanders, 27 Jan 1770. She was born 6 Feb 1750, died 10 Sept
1826. He died in Tennessee, 5 May 1821. Their children were:
Thomas, Gideon, Eliza, John, Walter, Nancy, Richerdson, Betty,
Susan, Sarah, Polly
Dear Pat and Listers:
The above misrepresents badly the line of Major Thomas Carr (1678-1738) of
Caroline Co., Virginia.
Thomas Carr (1705-1743), son of Maj. Thomas Carr (1678-1738) and his wife
Mary (Dabney) Carr of Caroline Co. never had children who grew to adulthood.
When Thomas (1705-1743), brother of John, Agnes, and Sarah Carr, died, the
three surviving siblings went to Louisa County court to struggle over his
posessions. John won. If Thomas had had any children at the time of his
death, this issue would never have arisen.
Gideon Carr (1711/12-1783) was baptised in St. Peter's Parish, the son of
William Carr and Catherine [Winston?] of New Kent Co., Virginia. He married
Susannah [Meekins?] in 1741. They lived in Albemarle Co. Children included
William (b. 1741), Thomas D. (b. 1742), Elizabeth (b. 1744), John (b. 1746),
Gideon W. (b. 1752), Mary (b. 1754), Nancy (b. 1756), Micajah (b. ?), and
Meekins (b. 1762). At least Thomas D. (d. 5 May 1821) and Gideon W. (d. 21
Mar 1844) removed to Dickson Co., Tennessee.
Gideon Carr's will was made in Albemarle Co. 19 Mar 1776, and proved Feb
1784. (Albemarle Co. Will Book 3, pp. 217-218) The names of his childen
(referring to daughters by their married names, where applicable) are given
in his will.
Gideon Carr was somehow related to Maj. Thomas Carr (1678-1838), as can be
seen by the bequest made in Thomas Carr's will of 400 acres of land "to my
KINSMAN, Gideon Carr." Such a term would never be used for a father,
brother, or son; the best guess is that William of New Kent Co. was a cousin
of Thomas - or possibly a brother.
Thomas D. Carr (15 May 1742 - 5 May 1821), son of Gideon, married 22 Jan 1770
in Albemarle Co. Ann Sanders (6 Feb 1749/50 - 10 Sep 1826). Their issue
included, among others: Thomas, Gideon, Elijah, and John (b. 27 Feb 1782,
Albemarle Co., died 1866, Wilson Co., Tenessesee).
