My great grandfather was called George Fenwick Wheeler and I've been struggling to
find the source of the 'Fenwick' as it didn't match any of his parents or
grandparents surnames. George's mother was Mary Jane Wheeler nee Dobson, which was
Mary and John Dobson's daughter. Mary went to live with the Wheeler's once John
had died. They have their names on a tomb stone in Newburn cemetry, with the rest of the
Wheeler crew.
I found one of Mary and John's sons living in with a Fenwick Carr but presumed it was
3 generations of Fenwick until I read your notes about the work house, which I found very
interersting.
Thank you for clarifying it for me, I was concerned there may have been more Fenwick
Carrs, than just 3 of them.
We still have a John Dobson Wheeler in our family so they were still keeping the names up
60 years ago, although we haven't any current 'Fenwick's'.
I have an old picture of Mary Jane Dobson and her family in my tree if you can find it.
If not I could email you it if you're interested.
Best wishes
Anne
