Hi!
I am searching for the parents of Cornelius or Neil/Neal Carr. He was born in Ireland,
possibly Cork County, maybe about 1825. His DOB is in question because it's different
in every census. He came to America in 1858. On October 30, 1860, he made his declaration
of intent to become a citizen - I am still trying to find where this document was filed
(Madison County, OH, where he was living at the time, only has the petition for
naturalization which is where I got the date above). He made his petition to become
naturalized on October 8, 1863, in Madison county, OH. However, on August 26, 1862 he was
married to Julia Riley in Fayette county, OH. There is also a Civil War draft entry from
June 1863, Fayette county OH, that lists a Neal Carr, from Ireland, age 32, married,
farmer. This sounds like it is my Neal Carr, but when I requested records from NARA, they
sent me a Cornelius Carr from Dayton who had a son named William. (I will post another
message about that later - I am !
trying to sell that because it's not my family) ANYWAY -- continuing on, my Neal Carr
and Julia Riley went on to spend the rest of their lives in Washington Court House,
Fayette county, OH. They had Ella Elizabeth, John James, Catherine (called Katie),
Margaret (called Maggie), and Mary Agnes. Neal died 20 Sept 1908 and Julia died 13 Dec
1895. I have traced their children and their lives after marriage, but I cannot locate
either one's parents. Is anyone else researching this family?
Thanks!
Jenn
