In Chicago General Carr married Miss Mary L. Pease, who was born in Maine, the daughter of
Eliphalet Pease, who was a native of Maine and died in Colorado. They have two children
Gerome B. Carr, and Mrs. L. P. McGwire, whose husband has been associated with General
Carr in the practice of the legal profession.
Last December General Carr had a sever illness of la grippe which was followed by
pneumonia in a dangerous form. In march he suffered from a violent attack of congestion
of the brain from which he never fully recovered. His physician advised him to go to a
lower altitude where he could take hot mineral baths. He accordingly started April 8th
for Mineral Wells, Texas, accompanied by his son Gerome and his daughter, Mrs. L. P.
McGwire. He had but one bath after which he took a severe cold, which developed into
tonsilitis and soon grew weaker when the doctors pronounced it diphtheria. After
treatment the diphteritic symptoms passed away, but in his weak condition his heart gave
out.
On hearing of his death Capt. McQwire went to Trinidad Sunday to meet the remains on the
way to Longmont, and to get permission from the passenger agent of the railroad company to
bring them home. This was done and the party arrived Monday evening. A large number of
visitors being expected, Long's Peak Commandery No. 12, K. T. of Longmont, St. Vrain
Lodge No. 23, A. F. and A. M. and McPherson Post No. 6, G. A. R. marched to the depot
Wednesday morning to act as escort.
The funeral services were held in the front yard of the Carr residence, as the house was
totally inadequate for the occasion. A male quartet composed of Messrs. Cole, McIsellan,
Norron and Rowen furnished the music. Rev. A. A. Johnson, D. D, had charge of the
ceremonies, and after he had read from the scriptures and offered prayer, he call upon
General Browning, Department Commander of the F. A. R., who made a touching address on the
military and human side of General Carr's character. Senator Teller followed and the
and testified to his personal sorrow at having lost a friend whom he valued highly, and
spoke of his services to the state in an official capacity, and that Colorado had lost an
able man.
Colorado Commandery No. 1, of Denver, and the Long's Peak Commandery of Longmont, K.
T., were in attendance in uniform and Masons from Denver, Erie, Canfield, Boulder and
Black were there to pay their last respect to their deceased brother. McPherson Post No.
G, G. A. R., were also present in a body.
After the services at the house the officer of the Grand Lodge of the A. F. and A. M. of
Colorado took charge and continued with the ritual of order of the grave.
The floral offering were unusually fine, and might be mentioned as follows; A. Knight
Templar emblem from Long's Peak Commandery No. 12, of Longmont; a Maltese cross and
another cross the Grand Lodge A. F. and A. M. of Colorado; a floral piece in the national
colors representing the badge from the Sons of the Revolution; from the First Regt.
Veteran Legion of Denver, a floral piece presenting their badge; from McPherson Relief
Corps No. 32, Longmont, a floral pillow with the words G. A. R.; from the Grand Chapter O.
E. S., a sheaf of wheat, and a beautiful star with the emblematic colors; a star woven in
the colors from Queen City Chapter, O. E. S. of Denver, also on from the Radiant Chapter,
of Denver; a star from Columbine Chapter of Longmont. The intimate friends of Mrs. Carr,
of Queen Ester Chapter of E. E. S., of Boulder also sent a beautiful star; Mr. and Mrs.
C.E. Day, a crescent in purple and white violets.
Floral offerings were received from the following person; Mr. and Mrs. Cohen of Colorado
Springs, Mr. Paul Buck and Mr. Will Forbess of Mineral Wells, Ex., Mrs. Bacon and Miss
McNItt, Mr. and Mrs. Eben White, Mrs. Harris, Roy and Cora Halvethout, Mr. and Mrs.
Slocum, Mrs. M. Fox, Mrs. R. R. Webb, Miss Eva Nelson, Mrs. King and Miss Clara Brown,
Mrs. N. C. Sullivan and Mattie, Mrs. Emily kand Mrs. G. E. Smith.
A box of beautiful flowers came Wednesday by express from Dr. C. Bardill of Monrovia,
California, to be place on the grave of his friend, Gen. B. L. Carr. Mrs. Carr carried
them to the cemetery and placed them on the grave husband.

Capt Gen., atended by thirty-four Sir Knight of Colorado Comandery No 1 of Denver and
neighboring Commanderies.

Dora B. Snyder, Worthy Matron Radiant Easter Star; Mrs. Mary Barry, Associate Grand
Matron, O. E. S.; Mrs. Wm. Hoadley and Mrs. Aste, of the O. E. S.; Mrs C. Reed, mother of
the Asst. Adjut Gener., Mrs. A. F. Sageley and Mrs. James Cowie of Boulder.
The Boulder County Bar from out of the city, was represented by Judge H. C. Henderson,
Junius Berkley R. H. Whitely, Judge J. T. Atwood of Boulder.
