Hi, I descend from James Carr's brother, George W Carr. I have James and Mary Carr
still alive in 1885 Iowa state census in Cherokee County. After that, I lose Mary but
find James and George Carr in Barton County, KS by 1889 according to their nephew's
obituary (Sherman Carr, son of brother John G Carr of Cherokee Co, IA)and only James Carr
(Age 68, born OH, migrated from Iowa) on 1895 Kansas census.

Hoisington Dispatch -- Thursday, April 11, 1889
"Sherman CARR, nephew of James and Geo. CARR residing near this place, was killed
Monday while working on the Iron Mountain road in Missouri. He was formerly employed on
the Mo. Pacific at Hoisington."
Marlin Bryant of Antioch, CA, USA has an
ancestry.com gedcom database called "Central
Kansas Integrated Family Tree Database 120108". He collects info on families from
Barton County, Kansas.
He has Mary E (wife of James M Carr) b. abt 1815 and died 10 Jul 1888 (location
uncertain). Also has burial as Homestead, Barton County, Kansas.
He has James M Carr b. abt 1826 and d. 27 Oct 1909 in Stella, Richardson Co, Nebraska.
Also has burial as Woodlawn Cemetery, Hoisington, KS.
I have not found any online sources to support these dates and burial places and have not
verified accuracy. But Marlin states he gets a lot of his info from Great Bend Public
Library:
"Persons seeking copies of obituaries or other GBT articles should contact the Great
Bend Public Library Reference Department at 1409 Williams Street, Great Bend, KS 67530
with their request, reference name and date/s, a SASE and at small $ donation for their
effort would be appreciated."
I found a James Carr in the 1900 Federal census in Homestead, Barton Co, KS, Age 75,
birthdate May 1825, birthplace Ohio, single, but has father's birthplace listed as
Ireland (instead of KY in 1880 census) and mother's birthplace listed as Scotland
(instead of Ohio in 1880 census). Perhaps James guessed at their birthplaces and later
found correct info? I'm still uncertain of James Carr's father. There are a few
Carrs/Kerrs in Fountain County, IN circa 1820s. George Carr and his family are buried in
Hoisington, Barton Co, KS with will probated 1899/1900. I didn't see his brother,
James Carr listed on it.
Who is Mary Handley's brother and parents? Where did they migrate from? I have not
researched that line yet.
James and Mary Carr also had a daughter who died young and is buried at Rob Roy Cemetery,
Shawnee Township, Fountain Co, IN.
