Jacob Rudolph was born in North Carolina, went to White County, Illinois from Tennessee,
after the year of 1800, and before the year of 1815, as the Stokes Chapel records in White
Co., Ill. states that Jacob Rudolph and his wife Rachel were charter members, and the
church was organized in 1815. He married Rachel Law (Low, Lowe), who was born and reared
in North Carolina, before coming to White Co., Ill. He and his wife died in White Co.,
Ill, and are buried in Hilliard Cemetery, three miles west of Crossville, Illinois.
(Cemetery now lost).
Jacob Rudolph lived on the old Cherry Place in White Co., Ill, near the Cherry Bridge,
across the Little Wabash River, section known as Blackledge Bottom. Coming to White Co.,
Ill., from Tennessee, his business was boating people to Carmi, Ill., on the Little Wabash
River by a row boat, a distance of approx. 12 miles by river.

Reuben, Frederick L., Jane, Nancy, Phebe (Phoeba), Margaret (Peggy), Jacob T., and Sally.
John Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Nancy Covington, December 5,
1831. Children: Ed and Will
1) Ed Rudolph, son of John and Nancy (Covington) Rudolph, married and had two sons:
John Ed and Will.
a) Will Rudolph, son of John and Nancy (Covington) Rudolph, married. His children:
Loren, Charley, Ida Frost and Carry Merrifield.
i) Loren Rudolph, married March 19, 1902, resid: Grayille, Ill., place of birth
Grayville, Ill., age 25, and Grace Estes, residence Crossville, Ill., age 20, place of
marriage, Crossville, Ill. (from record of marriages of Stokes Chapel, White Co., Ill.)
2) Peter Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Lucinda Cherry,
November 3, 1826. Had one son, Jacob.
3) David Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Matilda Cherry, Sept.
25, 1832. No Children.
4) Andrew Jackson Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, b. June 18, 1818,
married (1) December 20, 1837 to Eliza Kuykendall (a widow) January 23, 1853. He died May
8, 1888
5) Reuben Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, b. Sept. 14, 1819, married
Oct. 20, 1840 to Polly (Mary) Chism, died June 2, 1887.
6) Frederick L. Rudolph, son of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Elizabeth
Graham, May 29, 1845. Children: George, Dan, Carl, Robert, Thompson, Jacob (Jake),
Serepta and Ella.
a) Serepta Rudolph, b. March 26, 1846; dau of Frederick L. Rudolph, married December 7,
1866, Tom Cleveland. Children: Horatio, George, Bill, Fred and Sue.
b) Ella Rudolph, dau of Frederick L. Rudolph, married Horace Cleveland. No children
c) Robert Rudolph, dau of Frederick L. Rudolph, married Annie Dickens. Children:
Charley, Lowe, Mark, Hubert, and Jessie.
i) Lowe Rudolph, son of Robert Rudolph, living at this time in Crossville, Ill, 1945.
7) Jane Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Henry Cherry, December
7, 1829. Children: Willis, Andrew, Stanton, Henry, Armenta, Destimoney, Jane, Sarah and
Bettie.
8) Nancy Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Stanton Fitzgerald
from Posey Co., Ind. She raised her niece, Lucretia Carr (dau. of Sally Carr), who
married and lived in Indiana
9) Phebe (Phoeba) Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married first to
Henry H. McHenry, Nov. 27, 1833. Children: Frank, William and Sarah Jane.
Phebe Rudolph McHenry married (2) to Nelson Graves (date not known). Children: Armenda,
Clarinda, Phoebe Ann, Nelson, Andre and Jack Graves.
10) Margaret (Peggy) Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married April 4,
1824 to Whitnal Hilyard. They lived north of Crossville, Ill., in what was known as the
Bethel neighborhood. Children: Frank, Jim, William and David.
11) Jacob. T. Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Sally Conn,
August 4, 1825
12) Sally Rudolph, dau. of Jacob and Rachel (Law) Rudolph, married Willy Carr. She died
when her children were small. Children:
a) Denis Carr married Phebe Graves. They had two sons:
b) Edgar died young, never married
c) James Car, married and lives in Oklahoma (1945)
i) Albert Carr married Armanda Graves (sister of Denis Carr's wife). They had six
sons and two daughters: Elvis, Ira, Quinton, Leroy, Loy, Albert (Bert) Lula and Laura.
