CARR, NEWMAN A., JR., 66, formerly of Cumberland, Rhode Island, passed
away Sunday in the Hebert Nursing Center, Smithfield after a long battle
with cancer. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Newman and
Dorothy (Mann) Carr. He was a Class of 1962, Cumberland High School
graduate, and was a member of the state champion baseball team. After
high school, Mr. Carr served during Vietnam in the United States
National Guard, serving in the 115th Military Police Unit from 1968 to
1969. He was employed for 37 years at Blackstone Valley Electric,
retiring in 2000. He also worked at Paul Masse in Woonsocket until 2007.
During his retirement he was a volunteer at the St. Luke's Episcopal
Church Food Closet. He is survived by three brothers, Charles Carr of
Woonsocket, Norman Carr of South Carolina, and Paul D. Carr of
Cumberland; one sister, Dorothy Tessier-Whitford of North Providence;
and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will held Saturday from
8:30 to 10 AM in the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122,
Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM in
Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow
in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are
kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory
to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI
