Fri., Aug. 29, 1924 - STEVENS POINT DAILY JOURNAL, Stevens Point, Portage Co., WI:
Mrs. William S. Carr passed away suddenly at 11:30 o'clock last night at her home,
1521 Clark street, after suffering a paralytic stroke 15 minues before. She died before a
doctor arrived.
Although not in the best of health since last September, when she suffered a first stroke,
Mrs. Carr had been gradually gaining in strength and felt better Thursday than at any
other time during the past year. She was a dinner guest of friends Thursday and in the
evening retired at her home at about 9 o'clock.
Mrs. Carr, who before her marriage was Miss Jennie M. Empey, was a daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Alex J. Empey of this city and was born in Stevens Point. Had she lived until
October 12, she would have reached her 63rd birthday anniversary. She was married May 1,
1883, at St. Paul to Mr. Carr, who was then in the service of the Great Northern railroad
but who, prior to that time, had lived in Stevens Point. The couple resided at Grand
Forks, North Dakota, that city being Mr. Carr's headquarters. A year later Mrs.
Carr's mother died here and she was called home. Mr. Carr joined her here several
months after and in 1886 entered the employ of the Wisconsin Central railroad. He remained
with the Wisconsin Central and the Soo line up to the time of his recent retirement on
pension as a passenger conductor.
Besides the widower, Mrs. Carr is survived by two sons and one daughter, Cecil G. and
Kenneth Carr of this city and Mrs. Winnie Brattan of Knightstown, Ind., a matron at the
Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' orphan home here. Mrs. Brattan is expected on a
night train.
Funeral services will be held at the family home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with
interment following in Forest cemetery. Rev. R. A. Barnes of the Methodist church will
officiate.
Mrs. Carr had long been a member of the Royal Neighbors and held membership in the
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Order of Railroad Conductors for 20 years. She was the last
surviving member of a family of two sons and three daughters.
Tues., Sept. 2, 1924 - STEVENS POINT DAILY JOURNAL, Stevens Point, Portage Co., WI:
Mrs. Carr's Funeral Sunday. Rev. R. A. Barnes of St. Paul's M. E. church
officiated at the funeral on Sunday afternoon of Mrs. William S. Carr, services being held
at the family home on Clark street at 2 o'clock. The remains were then conveyed to
Forest cemetery and laid to rest by Daniel McCarthy, John Ray, James McGann and William C.
Kalke, all fellow members of the widower in the Order of Railway Conductors.
Relatives from out of town who came here for the funeral were Mrs. Winifred Brattan of
Knightstown, Ind., a daughter of Mrs. Carr; Mr. and Mrs. L. Manske of New London, the
latter a niece; Mrs. Ross Dawson of New London, a niece; Gregory Charlesworth of New
London, a nephew, and Frank Ross of Wausau, a brother-in-law.
