I just found your reply after having not been registered with
Ancestry.com for awhile. I
am so excited that your information matches up with what my mother told me, at least as
far as it goes. Others have researched and have come up with totally different
connections and have had me quite baffled as to my true heritage.
Nancy Carr (other's have said her name was really Agnes)would have been my
great-grandmother. My grandmother had a sister named Elizabeth and one named Eleanor who
came with their mother to U.S. I have done some research and have not come up with either
a Nancy or an Agnes Carr in Scotland.
My grandmother's name was always given as Annie on all of the U.S. census roles, yet
other family members of mine have decided through their research, that her real name was
Alice Anne. I think my mother would have known that, but then, who know's? My mother
said her mother,
Annie was about 3 years old when she arrived in U.S.A. and was born in Scotland. They
arrived at the port of Philadelphia. My mother said her mother said she arrived on the
"Good Ship Gibralter", which I have not found any trace of.
My grandmother Nancy Carr and John Bell were married in Paisley, Scotland in 1834.
It seems others research have claimed that she was really born in Ireland, or that her
parents were.
My mother said they were Paisly shawl weavers.
I have tons of research, and have often found almost identical name successions from
different areas of Scotland and Ireland, so I am hoping to find proof-positive of someone
who may have that for my family or at least someone like you who have matching
information. Then maybe between us we can find the real connection. It would make me
very happy to hear from you wether it's a match or not, and then I could at least
eliminate certain names from my search.
