Daniel T. Carr was born September 12, 1837 at Middletown Dauphin county, Pennsylvania. His
parents dying, he at the age of 13 years came to Wisconsin with the family of his uncle,
John Snyder, with whom he made his home, settling at Springville, Bad Ax county. In the
fall of 1860 he returned to Pennsylvania and enlisted at Willmore, August 20, 1861, in
Company G, 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry, serving faithfully until discharged at the end of
his term of Service, August 26, 1864. Returning to Wisconsin, he was united in marriage to
Mrs. Mary J. Skinnen, who survives him. He passed away May 13, 1915, aged 77 years, 8
months, 1 day. He leaves to mourn their loss, the devoted wife, two daughters, Mrs.
Charles Snyder of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Darwin H. Irwin, Duluth, Minnesota; two
sons, Edward and Hurley, both of Viroqua, also a step-daughter, Mrs. Fred Romanowsky of
Winona and two grandchildren. The obsequies were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon at

Rev. Wm. Macaulay and interment made in the Virouqa cemetery. The pall bearers were
members of the G.A. R. The family wish to extend thanks to the neighbors and friends for
the kind assistance during the sickness and death of the husband and father.

Daniel Carr, father of Mrs. Romanowsky, who formerly lived here, died at his home near
Viroqua last Thursday. Deceased was a veteran of the Civil War.
Funeral of Daniel Carr
The funeral of Veteran Daniel Carr, whose demise the leader reported in its last issue,
occurred on Sunday afternoon from the home near Cherry Grove, interment taking place in
the Viroqua cemetery.
Of the immediate relativesleft behind are the widow, his daughters, Mrs. Charles Snyder of
Calgary, Can., Mrs. Darwin H. Irwin of Duluth, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred
Romanowsky, of Alma, Wis., and Miss Freda who resides at the home, also Edward and Hurley,
both of Cherry Grove and two grandchildren.

At the family home, Asbury,on May 13, occurred the sad death of Veteran Daniel F. Carr. He
was born at Middletown, Penn., Sept. 13, 1837. In 1850 he cmae to Wis., with the family of
his uncle, John Snyder, with whom he made his home after the death of his parents,
locating near Springville, Bad Ax County. In the fall of 1860 he returned to Penn. and
enlisted at Wilmore, Aug. 10, 1861 in Co. C. 11th Penn. Cavalry, serving faithfully until
dischared at the expiration of term of service Aug. 16, 1864.
Returning to Wis. he was united in marriage to Mrs. mary J. Skinnen who survives him.
Services were conducted by Rev. McAuley at the home May 16, interment in Viroqua cemetery.
He will be sadly missed by the sorrowing family, who bow in submission to Him who doeth
all things well.
Esteem in which deceased was held was manifested by the large concouse of friends who
assembled to pay a last tribute of respect.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the neighbors and friends for their assistance
during the sickness and death of the father.
Carr funeral
The funeral of Dan Carr was largely attended at the farm home on Sunday. A number of his
army comrades were present, and the service was conducted by the Asbury pastor, Rev. Mr.
McAuley. One daughter, Mrs. Charles Snyder, in Canada did not arrive in time for the last
rites.
