WALNUT CREEK - Leo J. Wise, 98, of Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, formerly of
Crooksville, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at the nursing home.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with Pastor
Dana Hoover and the Rev. Mark Behrendt officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Creek
Cemetery.
Friends may call today (Sunday) from 2-5 at the funeral home.
He was born April 12, 1906, in Crooksville to John L. and Myrtle (Moore) Wise and married
Wilda Carr on Dec. 9, 1929, in Glendale, Calif. She survives.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was a pottery decorator for 35
years with Crooksville China, Pope Gosser China in Coshocton, Universal in Cambridge and
Empire China in Burbank. He retired from Crooksville School District.
He was a member of Crooksville Maple Avenue Christian Church and attended St. John's
United Church of Christ in Walnut Creek. He was also a member of Crooksville Veterans of
Foreign Wars and was a 75-year member of Peerless Lodge 591 F&AM.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Burbank, where she has lived for three years; are a
niece, Marcia (John) Maag of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a great-niece, Michelle (Randy)
Hochstetler and family, Dan, Heather, Sarah and Seth of Walnut Creek; great-nephews, Steve
Maag of Walnut Creek and Lt. Col. Michael (Leisa) Maag and family, Rachel, Matthew,
Rebekah, Leah and Steven, of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Sons, Fredic Leon and Jeffry Lynn Wise, died previously.
