Message Board Post:
I am descended from Elizabeth Carr (1794-1870) who married William Shaw in Sumner County, TN in 1818. Her father is usually shown to be Richard Carr (1766-1839), but I have not seen any primary source for that yet, and it's tough to figure out because there are no 1800 or 1810 censuses for Sumner County. Can anyone confirm that is her father?
Richard was supposedly the son of James King Carr. But, I am not sure about that either. Hannah Carr emigrated to Sumner from SW Virginia about 1784 with her 8 children. Her husband died about 1782 on Carr's Creek in what is now Russell County, VA. Some sources have her husband as James King Carr, and others have it as William Carr. Can anyone tell me for sure which one it is? They may have been brothers, and may also have been Kerrs, originally. Thanks!

Hi, I'm looking for information on the Savannah River Chickasaw. I've seen where a Tony Carr in the past was mentioned in the Book "Guardians of the Valley: Chickasaws in Colonial Carolina" in connection to his family being descended from the Savannah River Chickasaw. It states that he traced his familiy back to Ellender Neece, a full-blood Chickasaw born in that area(Aiken County, S.C.) in 1795. Does anyone know where we may be able to find any information on the other families that were connected to or descended from the Savannah River Chickasaws? Any help on this would be very grateful. Thanks.

Hello Brittney,
What County is Enterprise in ? I have heard of it, but, cannot remember exactly where it is ?
I have Carr's that were in Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties, which are in the very northwestern
corner of Alabama.
But, the furtherest back I go is my 4G Grandfather,
John "Jack" Carr, Born 1801 NC, married 1822 Lauderdale
co. Ala. to : Elizabeth Womack.
I do know that there was a second set of Carr's in the
same area and at the same time.
Which Carr's are you looking for ?
What other surnames are you researching ?
Feel free to email me directly, be sure to put something
like Alabama Carr's in subject line so I will not think
your email is spam.

Hi Julie,
My Kerr/Carr family is also from Samuel Kerr and Esther Johnson. My line is through thier son Andrew Kerr who married Elizabeth Hamblin. Two of their daughter's, Rebecca Armelda Kerr and Nancy Minerva Kerr, married brothers. My line, Rebecca Kerr, married John Mays Bennett and Rebecca's sister married John Bennett's brother, Benjamin Franklin Bennett. These families were close; however, John and Rebecca raised their family in Whitley County, KY and Benjamin and Nancy raised theirs in Cleveland County, OK. BOTH families have the same story...Cherokee bloodline through the Kerr sisters. It's been said that it is through the sister's mother Elizabeth Hamblin, but I am having a difficult time finding that either of her parents were of any Native American blood. What I find very interesting is that you are from the same line, but different son of Samual Kerr and Esther Johnson. This could be the clue I have been looking for. Esther Johnson may be the source. I will post my !
findings if I come across any.
by the way, dna testing proved that I have Native American blood on my father's side. (The line I mention above).
