Hello Jerry,
Thanks for the tip about Major James Carr listed in "The Carr Family Records" by Edson Irving Carr. It looked very promising until I read the list of his children that, unfortunately, did not contain either of the James Carr children (Dorcas and Isaac) I am researching.
Although I do not know the precise birth dates of my Dorcas and Isaac, the birth dates of the children of James and Susanna WENTWORTH Carr are contiguous. Therefore, it seems unlikely my Dorcas and Isaac could have simply been omitted from the listing of children.
My conclusion is that the James Carr listed in "The Carr Family Records" is not the person I seek. Seemingly, there was more than one James Carr from NH that attained the rank of major during the revolution. Hmmm.

>From the aforementioned book, page 68:
"Fifth Generation
Maj. James Carr (564) born in Dover, N.H., April 22, 1748, married Susanna Wentworth, of Col. John and Abigail (Millett) Wentworth, March 5, 1783. She was born Aug. 2, 1760 and died Aug. 4, 1833. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and was a lieutenant in Capt. John Wentworth's company and was promoted to the rank of major. He died March 11, 1829."

Hi, all -
a friend of mine, in the last year, bought a plaqued house - the
Catherine Carr house, in the village of Hope in Scituate, Rhode
Island ... anyone know anything about this CARR family that I can
share with its new owner??? I might try looking into old deeds for
the house, next trip to the Scituate Town Hall. I have no idea if
Carr is a married name or maiden name. I'm also not sure who plaqued
the house - perhaps the "Scituate Preservation Society" ... Hope
Village is in the south part of Scituate (near the Coventry, RI,
border), known for its foundry at one time.
thanks!

Margaret, surprisingly - no. The date is about right; the names are familiar; and Goulburn is the right area BUT I don't know of a Jabez Carr or the Easton or Graham families. Just a common surname I guess.

I am aware of the Thomas Carr line from Bellurgan. The THomas Carr I am looking into was from Ardee in County Louth and was born about 1830. I would not be surprised if the Bellurgan and the Ardee lines of the Carr family are related - but so far I have not been able to make that connection.
I apologize for being so late returning your post - guess I have been sort of busy lately. Thanks for your reply. Barbara Paul

Forgot to say that the yearbooks were free to look at through the end
of the month (no credit card or anything like that). Guess I'm getting
senile in my old age.
JM
Ancestry has but a bunch of old yearbooks online. Thought you might
want to check it out. I found a few of my ancestors (uncles and an
aunt) in one of the annuals. Went there from the box at
http://www.old-yearbooks.com.
Didn't see a link for the yearbooks when I went to ancestry, but I guess you could try that too.

I am researching John Carr said to have been born in Knowlesville, Orleans, New York in 1783--I haven't been able to prove this, but am very skeptical. Last week I visited Alboin, Orleans, New York. I was able to look at the actual land records from the Holland Land Record company and noted a Joseph Carr had purchased land in the area. His actual purchase was on Feb. 22, 1822 in lot 19, township 15, range 2. This was fairly close to the land purchased by John Carr's son, David Carr. Could this be a relative? John Carr married Sarah ____ and had children named David (1802), Harriet Jane (1803), Catherine (1806), Orlando Hopkins (1810), Emiline Elizabeth (1812), and Martha Patty (1816). If you have any more information about these families, I would really appreciate it!!
