I recently received a package from a cousin of mine that contained alot of information and copied pictures on a Carr family belonging to William C. Carr and Sarah (Shields) Carr. There are 6 girls: Mary, Lenora, Mattie, Anna, Otha, Virgie and 2 boys: Andrew Lafayette and William. According to my cousin, these people are related to my G Grandfather Joseph Carr. Joseph was born in DeSoto Parrish, LA in 1857 and died in the Johnson Co., TX poor farm in 1939. On his death certificate his father's name was Jim.
If anyone out there is related to or has any information on these families, please contact me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message Board Post:
Try looking for the Stevens in Kentucky......
James Robert Hoggard (some of family use Haggard) was the father of Rebecca Hoggard Stevens Turney (later of Van Buren / Cleburne Co Arkansas).
The Hoggard/Haggard family split in 1860s due to Civil War.....James Robert chose the Union side. He joined a TN CAV USA unit, but he moved his family up into Kentucky for the duration of the war. Some of his family was up there....anyway, after the war he joined the family in Kentucky.
Rebecca was born at the start of the war, so she grew up in Kentucky. She married a Stevens and they along with her parents and younger brother moved to Missouri for a time where she had a daughter Ermine Stevens (later Ermine Turney). The family of Stevens / Hoggard then moved to Arkansas and her Stevens husband died on this trip. They settled near Higden, Arkansas where Rebecca married Thomas Turney and had several children with him.
Anyway, I found the Stevens family in Kentucky.....
I guess you know some of the Carr family also ended up in Higden, AR area.....I have seen the name on Roaring River of Jackson / Overton Co Tn area along with Johnson, Hawkins, Linn/Lynn, Whittaker, etc......some of these also ended up in Higden, AR.
During War of 1812 - James Turney was a Captain of one of the units out of Overton Co TN - some of that area was later Putnam Co.....
If you go back to 1776 Washington Co Virginia - this would today be area of SW Virginia and just over border into TN....there was a petition signed by men north of the Holston River. These men had just gotten to the area say about 1774 or so coming out of the Valley of Virginia. Some had stopped for a short time on New River....most were moving from Shenandoah, Augusta, Rockingham Co VA. Carr is on this petition as are Turney, Hawkins, Johnson, Linn, Ramsey, and so on. So I would assume your Carr might have originally come out of VA to eastern TN....then the move to say Hawkins Co TN (at one early point this area was county of Spencer in State of Franklin and Peter Turney was sheriff of this area)....then to Roaring River area of Jackson Co which later split into Overton, etc. I just bet this is the migration of your Carr family rather than coming out of North Carolina into TN.
Mary
