The Carr DNA Project has YDNA samples from several documented descendants of Gov. Caleb Carr and his brother Robert at this point. You can determine if your Carr line could share recent common paternal line ancestry with these brothers by having a male descendant of your Carr line join the Carr DNA project. This test will also identify other Carr lineages that may share recent common ancestry with your line.
You can order a kit and join the project through this link.

Betsy, I was already operating on this assumption, since my father had told me quite a long time back that our ancestors migrated into eastern NC with early Quakers and others wanting more land. I have (if I'm correct) traced my Carr line from Gov. Caleb Carr back into England, but I want to assure that my lineages are as nearly correct as possible. Until I can find affirmation, operating on an assumption isn't very reliable. As you suggested, Job might well have come South for a while then went back to MA or Long Island NY to spend his last days with his relatives there. The fascinating part of this line's research is that IF my Job were son of Caleb (gov. of MA in 1690s), his wife was Hannah Willets who apparently was of a triplet birth; she had a sister named Phebe, and I have to assume that she named her daughter Phebe after her sister. There was another daughter, who was also a Hannah. Third sister? may have died as a child. FF Moore

I had considered your postulation (that your Robert might have been a possible son); however, I know of only one child who emigrated with Job: his daughter, Phebe. 'wish I could be of more assistance. FFM

Our Carrs were healthy and adventurous, so it would not be impossible
that Job Carr, b. 1680's to Caleb Carr in RI, might have come down the coast with a maiden daughter for a few years in the sun before returning home.
Job is # 102733 in Pat Noble's Rootsweb site called "My Carr Database."
Or if not Job 1, then perhaps a son or nephew. The RI line of Carrs has several documented Jobs, Phoebes, and captains, so wouldn't a connection be possible?

Well, think about it... Early colonial settlements formed along the coastal areas and the next generation moved inland. Your Job had to be close to my Robert's parents' generation. I don't know where Robert was born, but his parents had to be born between 25 and 35 or so years before Robert (b. ca 1745).
I am looking for Robert's parents, so I was hoping that Job might have a son or nephew named Robert who went west a few counties. Robert's children went into TN and KY.

I'm not familiar with your branch; Franklin Co. is not in eastern NC, nor is the timeframe such that it would work with Job and Phebe Carr (who married an Oliver). Thanks for your very prompt response, though. Job would probably have been born ca very early 1700s, since he was probably late 30s or early 40s when militia head in Currituck Co. (on the coast, close to Cape Hatteras).

Folks, I REALLY need to find where my Job Carr and his daughter, Phebe, emigrated from in 1740s to Cape Hatteras Shores, NC. Job was involved in court cases in 1744; was militia captain in then-Currituck County NC in 1744-45, and his daughter, Phebe (a common CARR female's name in families from Massachusetts as well as Long Island NY), married my Captain Thomas Oliver ancestor. Surely, some Carr descendant somewhere has information on a Job Carr, who left the northern realms for life in the sunny South! Can you please be of help? Florence Fulford Moore

I am looking for any living desendents of John E. Carr of Popejoy Iowa. He was at one time, the bank president and was a very prominent man in Franklin County. I know that Mr. and Mrs. Carr had two sons, Woodrow and John Carr Junior who died in 1915. There were also five daughters that I am aware of. One, Gladys Florence Carr, died around 1920. I have listed her obituary under another thread.
My grandparents, George and Fannie Newton, were close family friends. I have several family pictures that I would like to return to the immediate family - if there are any still surviving. If you are related to this family, I can be reached at blazick123-genie(a)yahoo.com.

The following is the obituary for Gladys Florence Carr:
POPEJOY GIRL DEAD
Daughter of J. E. Carr Victim of The Flu
Miss Gladys Florence Carr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Carr, of popejoy, died Tuesday, december 17th at 8:00o'clock a.m. at Iowa City, Iowa, the victim of that dreaded disease, influenza. When word was received of her illness, her mother and father went to her aid at once; the very best of doctors and nurses did all that could be done, but sceptic pneumonia developed, and all that skill and loving hands could do was of no avail.
Gladys Florence Carr was born on the home farm, Oakland township, Franklin county, Iowa, August 28, 1900. From here she grew to womanhood. She attended the Popejoy public school until thirteen years of age, when she graduated fromt he eighth grade. She then entered high school at Dows, where she completed her high school course and graduated with high honors at the early age of seventeen, in June, 1918. Gladys being ambitious for her future education, desired to continue her research for something higher. She decided to enter the State University at Iowa City, where she took up a course in Liberal Arts.
She leaves to mourn her loss her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carr, four sisters, Mrs. C. C. Harte, of Kerman, California; Mrs. W. G. Brede, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. F. A. Rummel, of Dows; Mrs. J. W. Fisher, and one brother, Woodrow Carr. One brother, Johnnie Carr Jr. passed away on Feburary 1st 1915. She leaves other relations and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Elwick, of Dows, and Rev. Bottom, of Gilmore City. Interment was made in the Alden cemetery. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
-----
The paper and it's date is not noted on the obituary copy that I have. I have other family portraits of this family if anyone is interested.

Hi,
I'm looking for any information on the family of Thomas Carr & Ellen (nee Mullan) who emigrated from Monaghan, Ireland to Glasgow around 1876. They had 5 children born in Ireland (Patrick, Mary, Anna, Thomas & James), and 4 born in Glasgow (John, Margaret, Peter & Denis). Ellen and daughter Margaret died in Glasgow & some of the family moved back to Ireland where Denis later married and had a family. I don't know what became of any of the others, but I believe some may have stayed in Scotland. The family also used the name Corr. I would be grateful for any information.
