We have the family tradition that one of our ancestors Mary left Ireland and went to the US with (or met there) a John Carr, became the Aunt on a Silent Movie version of Wizard of Oz.
Other rellies all(?) came to Australia. If any of these Carrs made it to Australia, it would be amazing to reunite!

I'm interested in any information anyone may have on descendants of the Carr family who emigrated to Brisbane from Salford/Manchester, Lancashire in 1864. Joseph and Jane Carr lived in South Brisbane and had seven children John, Margaret, Eliza Jane, George Henry, Richard, Francis Abraham and Lavinia. Joseph remarried Elizabeth Raff and may have had children named Stanley and Florence. Francis Abraham Carr was my grandfather.
MOVING DAY FOR LISTS
The RootsWeb.com mailing lists are moving to a new list management
system. However, all the lists won't be updated at once. It will take
about two weeks to complete the process. Additional information about
the update and a current schedule can be found at
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html
How will it affect you? Your current subscription(s) will transfer
automatically to the new system so there will be no need to
re-subscribe to your list(s). However, because the sending and
receiving of list e-mail will be handled by a new system, you may
notice a few changes to your list(s). Digest subscribers will notice
a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests.
The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means
the "from" address your mailing list e-mails come from will be
different -- ListName(a)rootsweb.com vs. the current
ListName-(a)rootsweb.com. You may have to adjust your spam filters or
put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent messages from
being caught in your "junk" folders. The tools that
list administrators use to manage their lists are changing also. If
you are a list admin, you will be contacted in a separate e-mail with
more details and a link to a tutorial.
RootsWeb appreciates your patience during this transition and hopes
that the mailing lists will continue to be a valuable tool in your
genealogy research.

I am trying to find the descendents of a Mary Carr who was born about 1840 in Ireland. She is on the 1860 Philadelphia census as living with our relatives, the Henry Freas family. I am assuming she was the servant. I am trying to find out more about the Freas' and hoped that maybe if Mary married and had a family some of the stories were passed down. Margaret Freas, the mother, had a father who was a sea captain and went down with his ship. I am seeking information on him primarily.

Looking for any evidence/record of the parentage of Hannah CARR, my gg-grandmother who died 28-Feb-1880 in Grove, Shelf (Halifax) and is buried in Wade House Chapel, Shelf.
She married James BOTTOMLEY on 21-Dec-1818 Bradford, with her named as Sarah CARR. The censuses record Hannah CARR being born in Bowling in approx 1801. The couple lived on the Shelf / N Bierley border; they had at least eight if not nine children.
Analysis of the IGI shows she might have been a daughter of John CARR & Martha WILSON or of Joseph CARR & Betty FEARNSIDE. Can anyone confirm or repudiate this?

My great grandfather (Walter Briggs Rudd) was married to an Ida C Carr in approximately 1918. I need help in locating her parents. There were 2 Ida C Carrs in the 1900 Census, but just 1 in 1910 and than Ida C Rudd in 1920. Both of the Ida C. Carrs were from Mass. and had father from New Hampshire and mother from England and approximately the same age, so it is difficult to know which of these was in fact the correct Ida. Also for the 1 Ida I did a search of her father Walter C from New Ha,pshire and there really isn't any census record before 1900 for him. If anyone can help me please let me know Thanks.

Hi Michelle
I came across your interest in the Carr family on the Curious Fox & Ancestry websites & thought that the following might be of interest to you.
Benjamin Carr (born about 1792) was my great-great-great grandfather. He married Martha Beaumont (born about 1794) 7 July 1814 at Royston, Yorkshire. They had the following children born at Methley, Yorkshire:
• William, your great-great-great grandfather (born 19 April 1815)
• James (born 11 April 1817)
• Thomas (born 8 November 1819)
• Joseph (born 4 January 1822)
• Sarah Ann ((born 1 March 1824)
• Martha, my great-great grandmother (born 2 March 1826)
• Benjamin (baptised 23 November 1828)
• John (born 30 October 1830)
• Jonathan (born 8 February 1833)
• George (born 5 March 1837)
• Henry (born about 1839)
I have copies of the entries from the Baptismal Register for all of their children, except for Henry.
Martha Beaumont died of a ‘Spasm of the stomach – 12 hours’ on 24 September 1857 at Methley, Yorkshire – I have a copy of her death certificate.
Benjamin remarried on 27 June 1859. His wife was Sarah West, a widow, whose previous husband had the surname Yates. I have a copy of the marriage certificate between Benjamin & Sarah, on which her father is shown as William, a mariner & Benjamin’s father is shown as Jonathan, a labourer. Benjamin & Sarah are shown as living at Pontefract, Yorkshire.
I have two census returns for Benjamin Car & Martha Beaumont:
• 1841 – which also shows their children Thomas, Joseph Martha, Benjamin, John, George & Henry
• 1851 – which also shows their children Martha, John, George & Henry
I have the census return for Benjamin Carr & Sarah West for 1861, which also shows the children from Benjamin’s first marriage – William, George & Henry, & your great-great grandfather, Emmanuel. As you already known, on this return, Benjamin’s birthplace is shown as Rawmarsh, Yorkshire, whereas on the 1851 census return it’s shown as Methley, Yorkshire. The names of the households either side that of Benjamin on these two returns are the same & so I think it safe to assume that, despite the different places of birth for him, the two census returns are for the same Benjamin Carr – or else someone with the same name & children moved into the same house!
The census returns for 1871 & 1881 show that Sarah was a widow & living alone at Methley in the ‘Poor Houses’ (1871) & ‘Alms Houses’ (1881). I haven’t yet identified when Benjamin or Sarah died, although I have found two possible entries for Sarah’s death in the Pontefract district on FreeBMD – the March quarter of 1886 (aged 89) & the June quarter of 1890 (aged 80). Of these, I think that the 1886 entry is the more likely as her age at death means a year of birth of 1797 – consistent with the year of birth suggested on the census returns, 1800 (1861), 1799 (1871), 1797 (1881). The nearest entry I’ve found for the death of Benjamin is for a Bennefas Carr in the Pontefract district in the September quarter of 1862, but this is more likely to be a phonetic spelling of the name Boniface.
There are some inconsistencies in all of this:
• the marriage certificate for Benjamin & Sarah shows Benjamin’s occupation as a ‘Mariner’. This could imply that he met Sarah through her father, also a mariner, but Benjamin is shown on the census returns & Baptismal Register entries for his children as a coal miner. I wonder if ‘miner’ has been interpreted as ‘mariner’ in the local dialect. It could be that the marriage certificate I have is not for ‘our’ Benjamin & Sarah, but I’m fairly confident that it is. I’ve searched the online parish register entries at Ancestry from the March quarter of 1857 (the year in which Martha Beaumont died) to the December quarter of 1861 (the year in which Sarah is first shown on the census returns as Benjamin’s wife) & of the 10 marriages recorded between a Benjamin Carr & Sarah, only six occurred in Yorkshire – one in the Pontefract district, one in the York district, two in t!
he Barnsley district, one in the Bradford district & one in the Eccleshall Bierlow (near Sheffield) district.
• the place of birth for Benjamin is different for the census returns of 1851 (Methley) & 1861 (Rawmarsh). As Methley was the place where the 1851 census return was made, Benjamin, like a lot of people at the time, probably identified the place where he was currently residing as his place of birth – Rawmarsh is probably his real place of birth.
• Rawmarsh is a long way south of Pontefract – it’s a few miles north of Rotherham. How did Benjamin end up in the Pontefract district & why did he & Martha marry at Royston, a lot further north, about a third of the way between Barnsley & Pontefract? If this is the same Benjamin then he did a lot of travelling as a miner/mariner.
I’d be interested in what you think about all of this. I’ve noted the information you’ve already posted about William Carr, his wife Matilda & their descendants down to Gertrude, Louisa (Lucy) & Frances & would like to know where you ‘fit in’.
I’d be happy to send to you any of the documents I have. My tree is on the GenesReunited website & I’m happy to give you access to it if you’re also a member, but if you’re not then I could send you a descendancy report of my line from Jonathan Carr (Benjamin’s father).
Looking forward to hearing from you. My email address is russellrobshaw.ancestry(a)yahoo.co.uk.
Best regards
Russell Robshaw
