I am searching for information on where my grandfather, Herman Kenneth Car Jr, was buried.
He was born in Danville, Illinois to Herman Sr and Berdie Anne Carr. He also married my grandmother, Martha Bledsoe, in Danville. They later divorced and Herman moved to Detroit Michigan, where he remarried.
When Herman died in February 1963, his relatives in Danville put an obituary for him in the local Danville newpaper. The obituary said that Herman died in Detroit. In spite of this, I have not found anything to substantiate this.
I tried to order a copy of his death certificate from the state of Michigan, but they did not have Herman on file. I tried to see if the local Detroit newspaper had an obituary for Herman, but I was not able to find one.
All of this leads me to wonder if Herman actually died in Detroit.
Any help on determining where my grandfather passed away will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Maria,
I noted that Joseph is shown to have brother John who was born in 1817 in Ireland. My Great grandfather was born in 1817 (June I believe) in Ireland according to US census and family records. I do not have any other information about my great grandfather's origins. He emigrated to the US in 1834, however the first record I have of him is when he married in New York City in 1855 to Mary Watson. At that time he already had a 117 acre farm in Niagara County, New York. The farm was along the Niagara River, a little south of Niagara Falls in what is now North Tonawanda, New York.
Do you have any additional information about Joseph's brother John.

Do they share a common paternal line ancestor? They lived near each other, moved from place to place together. But are they descended from the same man? There are many links between our Carr families living around the world today. Paper trails are not getting us there. Carr family historians need more Carr surnamed men to have their YDNA tested to identify the missing links. A DNA match between two families establishes a high probability of common paternal or maternal line ancestry. Knowing two families may share a common paternal line can identify where more concentrated paper research may identify that common ancestry. Given the state of paper records, the DNA result may sometimes be the only information indicating common ancestry between families. Several people I know who are in that situation are pleased to at least have that information. Situations where there is the sole living male of a paternal line and no likelihood for male progeny really need to be teste!
d if family historians are to have this information to aid their family history search now and in the future. In many cases, family historians will have to muster resources and pay for tests of individuals to obtain the DNA signature from people who have no personal interest in the result. All DNA projects accept donations to allow testing by those who need the assistance, so everyone can help out by making donations to DNA surname prjects at the major DNA test companies.
Any serious genealogist should want all of the maternal and paternal lines tested now that we have this tool.
So, join your fellow Carr Family Historians and do a DNA test, you will spend the relatively small amount of money a DNA test costs on far more frivolous things over the next year, but this one will last forever, so do it now, you'll most likely will never miss the money, but you will treasure the result. For a family historian, DNA testing should be right up there with checking old paper records.
