Message Board Post:
Greetings,
I suspect this is the Irish John Carr who lived in Peoria IL briefly and whose records were a close match for our John Carr (prob. Engl), son of William. He later returned to Peoria and had a gambling establishment there in Peoria's heyday.
This Irish John Carr went on to be fair and brave as a sheriff of Tombstone AZ during the sheepmen/cattlemen wars and was complimented by Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp for his work then. This Carr is broad-shouldered, stocky, sandy-haired, and had a huge handlebar mustache.
I believe he finished his life living in a resident hotel in Kansas City that was a favorite of many old gun-slingers. He bought the hotel and in appreciation gave it to the woman who ran it.
My uncle and I collected information on him over a period of 80 years until we finally got him untangled from our ancestor. This is all the information I have on him.
