My CARRs were mainly in Gateshead, certainly for the whole of the 18th
century. I have Cuthbert CARR born 1798 to Robert CARR and Elizabeth
HOLMES who were married in Gateshead 1790. Both Cuthbert and Robert were
Keelmen on the Tyne. Cuthbert married Mary Ann or Marianne LEE in
Gateshead 1817. Their son John married Jane WHARRIER in Gateshead 1842,
their son Robert married Henrietta PEARSON in Gateshead 1872, their
daughter Elizbabeth married Christopher George CARTER in Newcastle 1903.
I`d be interested to hear of anyone researching CARRs from the Gateshead
area.

The Durkin children are listed as "Gillaghan" in Burke, Dane Co. WI in the 1860 census with Thomas and Ann Gilligan.

Tarney, thank you for your response. My ancestor was Christian Kerr/Carr and though he died in the Charleston area, his children migrated to Mississippi in the 1820s.
There are researchers who believe that Christian Carr was of german origins and that he migrated to SC alone. I'm not convinced of either thought. Early undocumented research hints that he had a sister living in SC...I believe her name was Betsy Smith.
I thought that if the folks researching the Kerrs/Carrs in that area could compare notes, that we might be able to realize any connection between the names I listed.

Connie,
I'm not sure that Isham, John and Cornelius Carr were brothers, but it is very possible.
Isham and John both died around 1815 in Feliciana Parish, LA and there are good probate records naming their children. Cornelius Carr was involved in both probate files.
Isham Carr had just one son, William, and two daughters. They all went on to Pike County, MS.
John Carr had sons Gideon, Vincent, William, John and Henry. I think the son John was probably born around 1800 and that he stayed in Feliciana Parish.
Census records indicate that Cornelius Carr may have had as many as 6 sons, most of which I cannot name, but none that were apparently born in 1811 in South Carolina. Cornelius Carr is shown on the 1810 Barnwell SC census with 3 children, 2 girls under 10 and one boy under 10. He obtained a Georgia passport March 1811 with wife and 3 children (and mother-in-law). I think Cornelius Carr was in Pike and Marion Counties MS by 1830 and by 1850 was in Union Parish, LA where he probably died. He died in 1852.
We can discuss our Carrs via e-mail if you're interested.

I don't know the connection between the early SC Carrs/Kerrs you mentioned, but I have done quite a bit of research on William Carr of Alligator Branch and Salkehatchie.
I also have a lot of information about three of the Carrs that left Barnwell area of SC around 1810 and 1811. They were John, Isham and Cornelius Carr and they went to Feliciana Parish, LA. Some descendants went on to Mississippi by 1820. I think they were closely related, perhaps brothers. John Carr is the only one I can document being a son of William Carr of Alligator and Salkehatchie.
Cornelius Carr was my ancestor.
