Your family doesn't seem to appear in either The Carr Book or Carr
Family Records, by Edson Carr. I have some info on the line from "Sayles

I dug back further and think I made a connection to the Carr Book for
you. It looks like your line moved from Portsmouth, RI (Newport Co) to
Dighton, MA (Bristol Co) after 1870. Looks like Herbert is son of
Charles Carr b 1811, who is son of Richmond Carr b abt 1779.
Caleb Carr b 6 Nov 1702 married Sarah Richmond, her surname being the
likely origins of the Richmond first name in your line. I have
information that your Richmond was son of Robert. It is possible that
Robert, father of Richmond, is identical with Robert Carr b 22 Dec 1735,
son of Caleb and Sarah (Richmond Carr) and that your Richmond is named
for his grandmother's surname and/or Robert's brother Richmond Carr.
Keep in mind that what I have to date shows that Robert's family
scattered to the four winds -- to Vermont, Michigan, Massachusetts,
upstate New York, et al, so you're stuck confirming a lot of
undocumented records from the Carr Book, most of which are cited at my
website at Rootsweb, if you want to make this connection. Don't take my
reasonable speculation as fact. If you sort things out, please let me
know. This has been quite a nice inroad into understanding the Carrs and
appreciate the opportunity to dig around for you. I'm including a few
charts below FYI.

Hello Ruth, I have been doing some research on my family in the Headford, County Galway area, and ran across this information on the CARR family....
3 March 1888
Of WILLIAM CARR, who left Ballyculligan, Headford, County Galway, Ireland, in 1850, came to this country and settled in New Orleans. He wrote to a friend in Ireland in 1861 that he was then in the Southern Army going out to the field of battle, and had a house in New Orleans, and he desired any communication in future to be sent to the Rev. Fr. Haden, of New Orleans. Any information of him, dead or alive, will be thankfully received by his brother, JOHN CARR, Bristol, Worth County, Iowa.

I am also checking into the Carrs from Monroe County, specifically the family of Charles Carr (1819-1877 - IRE>PA>IA). I cannot link James Carr with Charles Carr, but there were a lot of Carrs in Monroe County, specifically in Guilford and Wayne Townships. You may want to check out some information available at www.iamonroe.org.

I am looking for information on my ggg grandfather James Carr. I do not have any dates on him other than he died in Port Said, before his daughters wedding in 1887. He married Dora Spence or Ditchburn. His fifth child is my gg grandmother, her name was Fanny Ditchburn Carr b 21 Oct 1860 in Harrington / Cumberland England. She married William George Truesdale 23 Aug 1887.
Not to much is known on James, my grandmother says that her grandmother would not talk about him. She hated him, because he was an alcoholic. From what family legend & papers we can find, he was born in England, and was a master of his own ship. I can not find any ship names or records. His eldest son Joseph Carr drowned when he & his crew went to the China Sea and never returned. Wilifred Carr 2nd son also went to sea. James other five children were girls. Their names were Mary (Polly), Janie, Fanny, Annie & unknown.
Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Thank you for any help!

It's possible that it's the same George Washington Carr, but I don't know if he was married to anyone other than Margaret Jackman. I do know that I have found a LOT of George Washington Carr's during my research. If you think it might be the same one, let me know and we can compare notes further. Hi Tammy... Thanks for writing back. I have found out who Elizabeth Caroline's parents were, but haven't found out anything beyond her parents. Her parents were George Washington Carr, born in either Kentucky or Indiana, and Margaret B. Jackman, born in Indiana. They were married in 1850, so I assume they were each born around 1830. I have census records for 1860, 1870, and 1880 for them. George Washington Carr was in the Civil War and was wounded and drew a pension. I believe he died sometime between 1870 and 1880. then for some reason, Margaret and at least some of the kids moved to Wisconsin. I know Elizabeth Caroline had a brother, I think named George Edward (the Edward part is right anyway), and he married a lady named Rose or Rosa.
I have a copy of Woodbury F & Elizabeth's marriage license. I would be glad to send that to you if you're interested. Now that I've started writing this, I realize that I do have quite a bit of information on Elizabeth Caroline, and I have a LOT of information on the Grover side. Which of Woodbury & Elizabeth's children is your husband descended from? His grandparent would have been my father's sibling. Please email me at beckybrat(a)aol.com so we can explore this connection more. I'll be glad to share all the information I have with you.

I am researching the history of our community Carr's Landing in the Okanagan Valley of BC. I have Andrew Carr registered on the Voters List in 1898, his occupation - farmer, marrying Agnes Patterson or perhaps Agnes Kennedy on November 20, 1901 and his death on March 11, 1910 at the age of 65, which makes him born in 1845. I know that he was the postmaster of Carr's Landing (then known as Sunnywold) on Okanagan Lake when mail was delivered by boat. Does anyone have any further info?
