Message Board Post:
What does the P stand for? I'm looking for Paris Carr.
I am very saddened by the news of Carol Mitchell's death; she was an
excellent genealogist and a scrupulous documenter. We will indeed miss her. Like
Devin Carr Lindsey, I have considerable hardcopy documentation of her work, but
no computer-readable file. I will be willing to copy this hardcopy info,
including sources, at some point after October 2003. (I'm presently in the midst of
a long-distance move.) If interested, contact me then.
This might be a good point to indicate Carol's contribution to the genealogy
of the descendants of Thomas Carr, Immigrant to King and Queen Co., Virginia
(d. bef. 1735, "Topping Castle", Caroline Co.) While it has never been in
doubt that Maj. Thomas Carr of Caroline (1678-1738) was a son of the immigrant,
the relationship of Capt. William Carr of Spotsylvania (Abt 1708-1760) to the
immigrant was not clear. I believe that Carol established with a high degree of
certainty that Capt. William was the son of William Carr and Elizabeth[?]
Chiles, and that William was a brother of Maj. Thomas Carr of Caroline. (Maj.
Thomas's 1735 will mentioned "my kinsman, Gideon Carr", and Gideon was known to
be son of Capt. William of Spotsylvania, but the relationship had not been
clear. So Carol's work established that Gideon was Maj. Thomas's nephew.)
ALL descendants of Thomas the immigrant should be grateful for Carol's work,
both as a researcher and a collaborator willing to share her well-documented
results and questions. Anyone who has searched for Carr ancestors in
antebellum Albemarle Co., Virginia needs to understand the relationship of Gideon
Carr's line to that of John Carr of Louisa, whose male descendants established
plantations in Albemarle. Thus, all Carrs in Antebellum Albemarle had a common
male ancestor.
Bill Carr
Carol helped me sort out some of my Carr mess. She will be missed.
At one time I had some of her info with sources but it would be a hard copy
print out now since I have reformatted my computer since then.
Devin Carr Lindsey
I understand that Carol Mitchell did a great deal of research on this family and had good
documentation which she sent to some folks probably on this list.
If you are not aware, Carol passed away on March 22nd.
If anyone has a file with her sources, please contact me.
Thanks,
Pat Baber

Hello Janet, I am sorry that I can't be of help. I don't know anything yet about my Barnes family so I am not able to help with that All I can tell you is that Elizabeth Barnes was b. about 1826 in TN and her mothers name was Margret (maiden name unknown at this time). I can't say that your Carr family isn't related to mine because the names are so much alike, the information I have so far on my Carr family is that they came from TN to MO, they lived in Texas County, Missouri. I am not sure who Samuel's father is but I do have a William living near him on the 1850 census in TN, so I am thinking that that is his father, at least I am hoping it is. Sorry I haven't been of any help. Good luck with your search.

I don't think I have anything to offer you but I can bring some interesting things to this table. I am looking for information on Alanson W. Barnes married in 1867 in MN and moved to MO living the last years of their life in Oregon Co. MO. Alanson's wife was Harriett/Hettie possibly Bridge.Do you know Elizabeth's parent's name or siblings?
I am looking for a father for Albert Carr who was born around 1875 possibly in IN. His mother was possibly a Nancy Henderson but she didn't marry Albert's father. Do you have any more information on this Albert H. b. c.1854 in MO? The younger Albert married Lillie Mae Barnes in 1905 and one of their daughters, named Jewel married JR Rice. in MO
If you can help me out let me know.

If these two Mary Gertrude Carr's are the same, her husband is Paris Carr, son of James Carr and Jane Henderson. She was born about August 7, 1854 and they were married in Martinsburg, MO on Sept. 15, 1871, and they had 12 children.
She was the daughter of William H. Morris and Mary or Nancy McMurtery. She died in 1924 or 25 and was interred in Benton City, MO.
