Hi Jo!
Yes, to the best of my knowledge I'm a descendant of Ann Carr (waiting for verification at present!) She married my paternal gggrandfather Joseph Dent in Whitehaven in 1843. They had children Isabella, Ann and Eleanor so I think it's quite possible there is a connection.
As I've just discovered this connection I've very little info, but am willing to share (I was searching for Ann Carser,as stated on her childs birth cert., but after purchasing a birth cert for another of her children have come to the conclusion that when asked her maiden name by the registrar, she repiled"Ann Carr, sir")

My great-great grandfather Andrew J. Carr was born in Illinois in 1950 or '51. The 1910 Census states both his parents were also born in Illinois. Might you have any other information "relative" to other Carr's there.
Thank you! Gary Carr

Dear Jan -
My great-great grandfather and family were living in Pulaski Co. Liberty Township, MO, according to the 1910 census. Andrew Carr was 59 years old at that time and I suspect he had lived there for some time, and perhaps his parents moved there from Illinois which is where said census indicates they were born.
By this time by great-grandfather Elbert had moved to St. Louis which is where my immediate family and Carr relatives live.
Hope to hear from you.

Dear Rick, I don't know where I've been, all these months, on other genealogy programs, for certain. I feel your information pretty well varifies my thought that "my" great grandmother Alifair was the twin daughter of John. BUT, I can find no record, other than the death certificate, that she married Joseph Lykins (Likens). Maybe she did not, if the circuit-riding preacher did not come around, someone added.
I just thought - I might check the cemetery; she could be in an adjoining grave. But, I feel she's in Ohio or West Virginia, where I lived for 11 years of my life. She's probably Cherokee; mother would never discuss my father's pride in his Cherokee heritage. Mother had easily tanned skin, high cheekbones. I burn, same cheekbones.
If Alifair and Joseph married, perhaps across the river, I need to check those states' records. Grandmother's birth certificate, too, might give a clue about Alifair. More to do...R.
I am trying to find the parents of George Cross Carr b. 22 Dec 1818 in Jamestown, RI. He married Sarah Catherine Anthony. I have seen reports where both John Carr b. 5 May 1774 and Mary Cross were his parents as well as his brother, Thomas, who married Abby Hull.

This is a follow up to my message of just a few minutes ago. Please accept my apologies for my "senior moment" -- I was flipping through an old folder and I DID find a list of the children of John Carr and Alcestes Laughlin, as follows:
Amanda Ann, born 1832, died in Indianapolis, no more info
Catharine, born 1836
John R., born 1838, died 1897
Oliver, born 1841, died 1866
David W., born 1843
Ruth Frances, born 1845, died 1925
Hypatia, born 1846, died 1918
Harrison, born 1848, died 1908
Edward, born 1850
three unnamed infants
None of the spouses of these individuals are listed. I also have a note that John Carr's father was William Carr and his mother was Susan Brandenburg. The information comes from one Paul R. Orr who has a website detailing the family of "Benjamin Jennings and Susannah (Brown) Tingley Descendants."
