Thanx for the reply. Your Catherine's birth date could be similar to mine. I notice that yours married at age 41. Kinda late. So she could have been a widow. Will all the Catherine CARRs please stand up!! Yesterday, I received a 5-cd set from Stepping Stones of the 1841 Census for West Riding. It's brousable by Parish, but many of the pages are very faded. As I have time I am looking for the Murrays. Just for the excercise I'll search for John CARR and see what happens.

Thanks, Bruce, but I'm not aware of that connection. I do have a Catherine Carr born on 28 August 1814 in Hull. She has a twin, Mary. Catherine marrried Robert Johnson on 2 May 1855 in Long Riston. I am not aware of any previous marriages for her. Her parents were John Carr and Elizather Ribey. Many thanks.

of Llewellyn Martin, but that isn't proven. We haven't found anything
yet about Alexander's past...he appears 1754 in Charlestown, Chester, PA
and stayed there until just after the Revolutionary war, when he and his
family moved to Virginia... On the tax lists, he appears as Arauch, 1754;
Arahad 1756,57, 58,62; and Arahut, 1763--subsequent to that, their name
ranged into Orchard, Orched and settled at Orahood in Virginia. We have

a winner. Any input is welcome.. Pat Saletore psaletore(a)prodigy.net

Through my Rootweb database, I have met a descendant of Lyman Carr looking to
connect with any close cousins. She has a lot of info on this family to
share. Her line is:
Lyman & Rosamond Whitman Carr --> Marcus Wanton & Alice Griswold Carr -->
Perry Silas & Susan Ross Carr --> Frederick Ross & Iva Taylor Carr.
If you are part of this direct line, please let me know. She has bible
records, photos, etc.
(This is not my Carr line. My Carr line ends with Mary Jane Carr, born abt
1842 in Scriba, New York. She married Francis Coon).

Bonnie,
It may have been a year ago now, one of the John Carr cousins found a
website with the marriage of John Carr and Abigail Orrahud on it. I
cannot quote it now, but it showed that her husband was John Carr.
Her parents are Alexander Orrahud and Ethlan E ________. They are the
original immigrants/ancestors at this point. The author couldn't go
beyond them and was theorizing that it may have been Alexander Orr and
Ethlan Hud/Hood, he was trying to hide from someone and just put the
names together for Orrahud. Since I can't give you the website, I can
give you the next best thing. The family is laid out on Ancestral File
at www.familysearch.com
Look for Abigail Orrahud (1LHG-M7G) she needs to be merged to (1C85-FPV).
Her parents are Alexander Orrahud (1LHG-LZT) and Ethlan E ______
(1LHG-M01). The eldest child is listed as born in Scotland, others in
Chester Co, PA, and others in VA. It looks like that family either moved
back and forth or someone needs to look at their real birth places.

Judy,
The closest I can come to this is:
Reuben Carr went to Woodford Co, KY from (W)VA, and married there in
1807. He has a son about 1810 who we have not identified. (May be your
Elijah) Anyway, they settled in Franklin and Shelby Co. of KY.
Chillicothe--there is one in OH. There are several Elijahs there, but
they are all born about 1820 or later. Likewise the folks in IL. Those
Elijahs are too young.

Does anyone have an ancestor named Salley J.
CARR? By the Logan County, Kentucky (USA)
1850 census, Salley was born about 1838. I know
that her father's name was Elijah who married
Mary L. Brown 2 Nov. 1827. The census is the
last record I have of her except a mention in the
Kentucky Marriages that a Salley CARR married
John WALKER 16 Aug. 1857 in Logan County,
Kentucky. The age of the bride is about right
(19 years) and the place matches with where
the rest of the family lived.
NOTE: Married at the home of M. A. L. Smith,
by Rev. Geo. Browder. J. Q. Hite (witness?)
Thanks in advance for any help finding this
woman.

Good morning,
Many researchers have been searching for many years to find out about who
the parents were of four KERR siblings who migrated to Canada in 1825.
They were Mary, Patrick, Elizabeth, and John, born between 1795 and 1805 in
IRELAND.* (possibly in County Sligo)
Three of the siblings were married with children when they left Ireland, and
the fourth was single and married in Canada. Their married names were:
William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON
Patrick and Elizabeth (or Mary) (KERR??) KERR
Levi and Elizabeth (KERR) MILLER (married Canada)
John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR
William and Mary Henderson were reportedly married in Sligo, County Sligo,
around 1812/13. Patrick and Eliza Kerr were probably married around
1815/16 in ???. John and Ann Kerr were probably married around 1821/22
in ???. And, they each had one to five children born to them before they
left Ireland in 1825.
When they traveled, a Samuel HENDERSON and his wife traveled with them.
And, they all settled in Gore Township in Argenteuil County, Quebec
Province. And, they pretty much remained in that general area throughout
the 1800's. (current towns are Lachute and Lakefield)
A very helpful researcher on the IRL-SLIGO List has responded to my query
and provided information. He pointed out a possible connection to look
into .. in the fact that there was a Robert CARR and a John HENDERSON listed
in the 1749 Census for the Parish of Calry ... And, I was wondering if
anyone was researching the descendants of those men.
Someone else had responded to my queries last summer and told me that there
was a KERR and a HENDERSON family in the Town of Sligo, as those surnames
can be found in the cemetery in Sligo.
Because these four KERR siblings had around ten children ..each.. a good
guess is that they came from a large family. But, without knowing
anything about their parents, we cannot tell whether they were the older
siblings or the younger siblings in the family. (There also might have
been a Dawson KERR who was related to them.)
In case it would help, these Kerr's and Henderson's pretty much stuck to the
common given names for their sons of: Samuel, William, John, Robert,
Joseph, etc. And, their daughters: Mary, Jane, Elizabeth, Hannah,
Sarah, etc.
Several researchers in Canada have collected a lot of information on the
descendants of these Kerr's and Henderson's, but have no information on
their ancestors. I wonder if anyone could help.
I am descended from Robert KERR, son of Patrick KERR, and Elizabeth
HENDERSON, daughter of Mary (KERR) HENDERSON, who were both born in Gore
Township in 1827. They married there in 1851, and had a son there in
1852. He was William Robert KERR, and around 1872-74, he migrated to
Boston, MA. In 1876, he married Elizabeth HANNAH in Boston, whose family
had migrated from Scotland to Boston when she was an infant. (Robert
and Elizabeth and their 4 younger children migrated to Boston during the
1880's (or 1890's).)
*My older uncles and aunts FIRMLY believe that their father was from a KERR
family from SCOTLAND ... and NO ONE is going to tell them any differently.
When I have questioned this, I found out about all the families from
Scotland who were "forced" to move to Ireland in the 1700's.
FYI: It is my understanding that many KERR families migrated to Canada in
the early 1800's. And, they seemed to settle in three different areas:
Richmond, Quebec Province, Gore (Lachute), Quebec Province, and just over
the border into Ontario Province. (Some settled in New Brunswick or Nova
Scotia.) But, I haven't found a researcher yet .. who has been able to tie
all these families together ...
Thank you for your time! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hello Graham,
I have a few John Carrs, one was born in 1855 in Withernwick, Yorkshire, married Harriet Jane Gilby and lived in Hull. His mother was Annie Elizabeth Carr. The other John Carr was born in 1781 in Long Riston, Yorkshire. I don't know his parents yet. Sorry, I don't know of a Jane or Nathaniel.
